I just hope some day history will appreciate how important it was for him to be where he is today.

"A Rock," was quite good enough! We've been getting into trouble lately with too many celebrities in public policy positions of trust! Schwartzenegger, Ventura, and others too numerous and shallow to mention!!!

Have you read thru the Jihad meltdown thread....you got to read it...got some links in there to some really good stuff....the author points out a letter from one insurgent to the lead al-Queda guy saying you are doing terrible stuff to us and we are not going to follow you any more..
Jveritas has looked at the letter and says yep ...that is what it says....

Not sure where this is, but it showed up on the Google News page:

VP Cheney Blasts Dems, Others For Undermining Troops In Iraq

***********************************************

Written by: BayouBuzz Staff

Is Vice President Dick Cheney correct in claiming that Congressional Democrats and others are “undermining troops” since some war opponents want to set a 2008 timetable to the withdrawing American troops from the Iraq war?

Cheney, while appearing at a meeting of The American Israel Public Affairs Committee said, ““When members of Congress pursue an antiwar strategy that’s been called ‘slow bleeding,’ they are not supporting the troops, they are undermining them,” Mr. Cheney said, adding, “Anyone can say they support the troops and we should take them at their word, but the proof will come when it’s time to provide the money.”

“Anyone can say they support the troops and we should take them at their word, but the proof will come when it’s time to provide the money.”

The Senate, this week, is expected to vote on a binding resolution establishing a goal of withdrawal in 2008.  Meanwhile, in the House of Representatives, the House Appropriations Committee are scrutinizing an emergency spending bill.

In a news conference last month, President Bush stated on the day debate was to begin on the Iraq resolution, ““I think you can be against my decision and support the troops, absolutely”.

Cheney’s comments appear to undercut President Bush’s own statement concerning “undermining the troops”.

However, many opponents of the Bush policy know that the war is very unpopular and are attempting to hold President Bush and Prime Minister Nouri Kamel Mohammed Hassan al-Maliki of Iraq to specific benchmarks including setting a 2008 withdrawal goal.

Mr. Cheney’s remarks to the Jewish group could resonate as a weaker Iraq could mean a stronger Iran which has already vowed to destroy Israel.   However, some war opponents want specific milestones set up to measure the success of the war and do not view setting a goal for withdrawal based upon the milestones as “undermining the troops”.  Others are concerned that Iraq is simply a civil war and recent statements by David Petraeus, the new  Top US Commander in Iraq--that additional troops might be needed beyond those allocated for the current surge--have done little but assuage their concerns of never-ending U.S. involvement in a foreign war.

Must read thread:

Jihadist Meltdown (A Must Read Article)

*********************************EXCERPT*****************************

There is always a moment during a raging battle when one side realizes that the field has been won, and the other side collapses in retreat and confusion. The curious thing about the Iraqi insurgency is that this moment has arrived, yet both the victors, in this case the Americans and the Iraqi government, and the losers, Al-Qaeda and the other jihadist groups, are reluctant to acknowledge it.

But make no mistake, the battle has been turned and we are witnessing the beginning of a jihadist meltdown.

Six months ago, many of the strategists behind the Sunni insurgency, faced with a more effective counterinsurgency effort, began to wonder just how long they could keep their momentum given their diminishing resources and talent. These strategists realized that their "resistance" would just peter out over time, as classical insurgencies tend to do. Some argued that, given one last push, the Americans would be sufficiently distressed to grab at cease-fire negotiations that would end with a hasty American withdrawal, leaving the insurgents to work things out with a much-weakened Iraqi government on more favorable terms.

Others, like Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia, the organization founded by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, saw that there was no future for their vision of establishing a Talibanlike state should these negotiations with the Americans get underway, which would only serve to strengthen the hand of the rival insurgent factions that counsel this course.

This sense that they were running out of time compelled Al-Qaeda to take a bold initiative of declaring the establishment of the Islamic State of Iraq four months back, appointing the hitherto unknown Abu Omar al-Baghdadi as its head.

**********************snip***********************

*****************************************************

Now if only the American press would report on this jihadist meltdown so that policymakers in Washington can rally the martial spirit to bring this battle to a crushing end for the enemy.

Thanks for the ping. This little snippet popped out at me and made me realize, once again, the two-faced hypocrisy of that enemy:

It's odd to think of ideologues out of the Dark Ages having a modern media strategy, but the fact is they do. They take videos of their attacks and put them up on the Internet to get them broadcast on television. They send messages and images by e-mail and tell their followers to spread the word.

They want to keep their way of life and not be influenced by the evil west, yet here they are using a modern tool for their cause. They want to keep everyone else in the bondage of ignorance, but themselves!

If I were to have one complaint it's that we (the civilized world) are not doing a very good job in confronting the jihadists ideologue, and exploting the divisions inside their movement.
