Clinton denounces Halliburton's move
By JOE STINEBAKER, Associated Press Writer 47 minutes ago
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday denounced oil giant Halliburton's planned relocation to Dubai.
"I think it raises a lot of very big concerns and we're going to be looking into it in Washington," the New York senator said at a news conference in the Bronx. "I think it's disgraceful that American companies are more than happy to try to get no-bid contracts like Halliburton has, and then turn around and say, 'You know, we're not going to stay.'"
On Saturday, Halliburton CEO Dave Lesar announced that the conglomerate's headquarters would move from Houston to Dubai, a booming city in the United Arab Emirates known for its liberal tax and residency laws. Lesar said the company's business was now largely based in the Middle East and Asia.
Halliburton, which was headed by Vice President Dick Cheney from 1995-2000, received several lucrative no-bid government contracts to manage the reconstruction of Iraq following the U.S.-led invasion there. Last month, federal investigators alleged Halliburton was responsible for $2.7 billion of the $10 billion in contractor waste and overcharging in Iraq.
In 2006, Halliburton earned profits of $2.3 billion on revenues of $22.6 billion.
"We have a lot of evidence about their misuse of government contracts and how they have cheated the American soldier, cheated the American taxpayer, they have taken money and not provided the services," said Clinton, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. "So, does moving overseas mean that we won't be able to pursue these investigations?"

Hillary!08 doesn't ask my advice anymore since I told her taking $40 billion from the oil companies was not a capitalist thing to do.
Right you are.
Yeah,... but they spelled led right.
What state/city is their HQ in now? Anyone know?
Not many like them in the world. I get into fights with Liberal "friends" when they spout off about these companies and ask the same questions. They always say that doesnt matter!
Here is what I say: "You know, ANYONE can review ALL the government contracts that are out for bid at any time, and ANYONE can request a copy of the specs and ANYONE can submit a bid. Just check it out on the Internet, or subscribe to a service to be notified. Many Americans have started businesses or grown businesses by submitting bids. Why don't you take a look and do it yourself?"
"They were the only company cabable of doing certain jobs."
Probably more like one of just a few companies capable of doing certain jobs.
Other American companies on the same tier with Halliburton include Bechtel and Fluor, IF they wanted the work. Possibly others--US and/or non-US.
The top level contractor does NOT do all the work; they plan, assemble, organize, contract with, manage others with resources and specialties.
bttt
"We have a lot of evidence about their misuse of government contracts and how they have cheated the American soldier, cheated the American taxpayer, they have taken money and not provided the services . . ."
Sounds like Congress!
Let's see, HRC and her ilk have been trying to drive Halliburton out of the country, Halliburton finally left, and the libs are upset about it?"
This is the tip of the iceberg.
Look for more and more companies to move out of Ka;ifornia with all the costs of doing business there.
Can anyone say "Atlas Shrugged"?"
Best book I ever read and re-read and re-read...

You are right about 2 mil being a big chunk but would take a lot more than that to be the major stockholder in Halli. 0.19% won't even get him standing room in the boardroom. :o)
I starting looking at bids last night. We subscribe to a service called input (government bids).
Well since NY has done such a great job with those homeland security funds...

Amazing what goes out for bids, isn't it? And the specs....definitely causes one to understand how the famous '$600 toilet seat' came about. Thank heavens the DEMS and LIBS haven't figured out that this excellent opportunity for the thriving of the free enterprise system is alive and well, or they would end it immediately. More than a few people have built successful businesses (and were honest in doing so!) by providing services as a result of bidding (I speak from experience). All the best to you.
disgraceful that American companies are more than happy to try to get no-bid contracts like Halliburton has
Didn't the Clinton Administration give no-bid contracts to Halliburton?
