Clinton denounces Halliburton's move

By JOE STINEBAKER, Associated Press Writer 47 minutes ago

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday denounced oil giant Halliburton's planned relocation to Dubai.

"I think it raises a lot of very big concerns and we're going to be looking into it in Washington," the New York senator said at a news conference in the Bronx. "I think it's disgraceful that American companies are more than happy to try to get no-bid contracts like Halliburton has, and then turn around and say, 'You know, we're not going to stay.'"

On Saturday, Halliburton CEO Dave Lesar announced that the conglomerate's headquarters would move from Houston to Dubai, a booming city in the United Arab Emirates known for its liberal tax and residency laws. Lesar said the company's business was now largely based in the Middle East and Asia.

Halliburton, which was headed by Vice President Dick Cheney from 1995-2000, received several lucrative no-bid government contracts to manage the reconstruction of Iraq following the U.S.-led invasion there. Last month, federal investigators alleged Halliburton was responsible for $2.7 billion of the $10 billion in contractor waste and overcharging in Iraq.

In 2006, Halliburton earned profits of $2.3 billion on revenues of $22.6 billion.

"We have a lot of evidence about their misuse of government contracts and how they have cheated the American soldier, cheated the American taxpayer, they have taken money and not provided the services," said Clinton, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. "So, does moving overseas mean that we won't be able to pursue these investigations?"

When are people going to ask the question, "How many other companies in the world could compete for the contract Halliburton currently holds?" Also, they need to ask the question, "How long did Halliburton hold that contract under the Clinton administration?"

Dear Ms Rodham,
What has your spouse Bill Clinton been promising when he has traveled to Dubai and earned a million in speech fees? More American business?

Bill rakes in the moola for hooking up foreign investors and you expect to rake in the political capital criticizing offshore businesses? If Halliburton hires some of your husband's former advisors. what will hapen to your indignation?

"Bill Clinton, former US president, advised top officials from Dubai two weeks ago on how to address growing US concerns over the acquisition of five US container terminals by DP World. It came even as his wife, Senator Hillary Clinton, was leading efforts to derail the deal"

"While Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton was ripping President Bush's handling of American ports management, Bill Clinton was pushing for one of his favorite White House aides to be hired to defend the deal. The former president proposed to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) his onetime press secretary, Joe Lockhart, as Washington spokesman for the UAE-owned company, Dubai Ports World"

I work with companies like Halliburton and Bechtel. Not many like them in the world. I get into fights with Liberal "friends" when they spout off about these companies and ask the same questions. They always say that doesnt matter!

Maybe she could investigate cattle futures instead, where you can turn $1000 into $100,000.

For years the Halliburton name has been bandied about as though it were some sort of demonic cabal. Halliburton-the embodiment of all that is evil and nasty. So, they are up and leaving. What the heck took them so long?! Who would want to stay where they are so hated and reviled. Can anyone say "Atlas Shrugged"?

To: I got the rope

Do any of these liberals even know what Haliburton does? One of my biggest regrets is that I have never had the chance to hear a lib spout off about Haliburton, giving me the chance to ask them "What does Haliburton do, anyway?", and watch them go off the deep end.
