"Hollywood has a thing for Al Gore and his three-alarm film on global warming, “An Inconvenient Truth,” which won an Academy Award for best documentary. So do many environmentalists, who praise him as a visionary, and many scientists, who laud him for raising public awareness of climate change.

But part of his scientific audience is uneasy. In talks, articles and blog entries that have appeared since his film and accompanying book came out last year, these scientists argue that some of Mr. Gore’s central points are exaggerated and erroneous. They are alarmed, some say, at what they call his alarmism.

“I don’t want to pick on Al Gore,” Don J. Easterbrook, an emeritus professor of geology at Western Washington University, told hundreds of experts at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America. “But there are a lot of inaccuracies in the statements we are seeing, and we have to temper that with real data.”.."

The Academy had to relax Rule #11 (I think this rule has something to do with authenticity or truth) much like they did with Michael Moore's "documentary.)

In retrospect it looks like the warming that had occurred by 1945 was sufficient to clause melting. Total global warming so far in the last century is only 1 degree clesius with 2-3 degrees more projected over the next century. This will cause problems but its not like we can't safely take 5-10 years and seriously study the cause.

The problem is no major "side" wants to concentrate on finding the cause.

Engineers are easily duped. They think they can figure out anything, so if they can't find the gimmick they assume it must be the real thing. Hucksters of the "paranormal" know this, and love to get engineers and scientists to witness their 'miracles.' It's just a magic trick of course, so they never ask for magicians as witnesses!

The Global Warming Sham documentary puts the lie to the Greenhouse effect, not global warming. It accurately points out that changes in global temperatures occur before changes in CO2 levels. IOW, CO2 changes follow temperature changes rather than causing them. I.e. saying humans' CO2 contributions are the cause of global warming is a lie.<<

It did not appear to do that. Not to mention CO2 does correlate with warming through most of the last 600,000 years - what is not proved is that CO2 causes the warming.

I agree that was a well produced rebuttal to Al Gore but it was not, unfortunately, an accurate or honest rebuttal.

If the seas are rising and we cannot stop it, it will be more expensive than any endeavor in human history. Consider how it cost to relocate a few hundred thousand people in New Orleans. Compare that to millions of people in New York City and Beijing and most of the other largest cities in the world.

We will need all our resources and certainly don't need to blow money on reducing CO2 without proof it will help.
