If Hollywood was deliberately creating pro-US, pro-military propaganda it could not have done a finer job. It's like the Hollywood of the 40s with the technology of 2007. Cinematography is beautiful. 60 days to film. No big name cast, but a finer group they could not have brought together.
We read Gates of Fire some time ago and despite an incredible story to work with, we still had low expectations (this is the left coast after all). We were totally bowled over by it. Must see for Freeps.
Piss Off you Butt Pud Pushing Persians......
Hollywood put out an anti Islamic movie?
#1, Islam was not around at the time.
#2, Why would Hollywood (by extension) make a pro-American movie???
My, Frank Miller must be pissed about the movie being embraced by the right-wing, considering what a die-hard leftist loon he is...
Oh noes! It's another evil plot by the Jooooos.
" the Persians in the film were shown as "ugly and violent creatures rather than human beings."
Works for me. Persian, Iranian, no big diff.
Uh... why should Muslims be offended by any insult of Persian culture? Wouldn't the older Persian culture have been utterly at odds with Islam?
All the more reason to see it again!!
I guess so.
I bet they're just peed-off 'cause they lose the war.
"My, Frank Miller must be pissed about the movie being embraced by the right-wing, considering what a die-hard leftist loon he is..."
I'm pretty sure he's laughing all the way to the bank and kinda likes the fact that the Iranians condemned it.
I didn't say anti-Islamic, I said PRO AMERICAN! And, yes, the left coast undermined itself brilliantly. Messages that are clear and easily paralleled to the current situation in the middle east like "Freedom isn't free" are oft repeated.
Seeing the rag heads running across the screen, being pummeled and driven off a cliff and into the sea by FREE MEN who wouldn't bow down to a decadent leader proclaiming to be G-d...I could watch it again and again.
Khabar, a Iranian state run network, and their film critic employees.
No finer movie critics can be found the world over.
Hey, if they really want to piss off the Iranians, they should make a sequal to 300 on the battle of Salamis where the Persians were routed by the rest of the Spartans and ran like little girls back to Persia. :)
As as one of dem JOOOOOS, I am cheering and urging as many people to see it and spread the word as possible.
I haven't seen it yet but my wife and I might this week.
Xerxes the Great would not have tolerated Muslims in his realm for ten minutes.
The blood cult of Islam would have been throttled at its beginning.
The present-day Iranians would have been considered to be wusses.
They have been that way since Alexander of Macedonia stomped Darius III into the dirt in 333 BC. Essentially, Macedonia simply absorbed all of the Persian empire of the time.
It was an excellent film! Even aside from its message, it was striking, unusual and spectacular to look at. Some of the scenes looked like freizes from Greek temples or urn paintings, beautifully staged and super dramatic.
