PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush arrived in Bogota, Columbia today. His visit is a show of support for the Columbia, which is a staunch ally of the United States. The following AP/USA Today piece summarizes the visit.

Bush pays brief call on Colombia
Updated 41 mins. ago

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — President Bush renewed U.S. support to Colombia, a strong but drug and violence-plagued U.S. ally which receives more U.S. aid than any country outside the Middle East and Afghanistan. Bush arrived in the nation's capital on Sunday to meet with President Alvaro Uribe in a show of confidence for Uribe and Colombia's battle against narcoterrorists. But the stop was clouded by a political scandal involving Uribe, and security jitters had Bush staying only about six hours.

Colombia was the third country on the president's five-nation tour of Latin America. He began his journey in Brazil, flew here from Uruguay and was headed later Sunday to Guatemala. Bush last stops in Mexico before returning to Washington Wednesday.

It was Bogota's first visit from a sitting president since Ronald Reagan in 1982. Some 20,000 police and heavily armed troops will virtually shut off downtown Bogota to guard against a possible rebel attack.

PRESIDENTIAL SCHEDULE:

— Mar. 14, President and Mrs. Bush arrive back in Washington from their trip to South America and Mexico.

— Mar. 15, House GOP Leader John Boehner (R-OH) chairs the NRCC March Dinner at the Washington Hilton Hotel, headlined by President Bush.

— Mar. 16, Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern will meet in the White House with President Bush to discuss bilateral issues and Northern Ireland, and to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with their annual "Shamrock Ceremony."

I win by sheer luck it seems. But today, sheer luck didn't pay off. LOL

Right! Samr stuff and this is also wonderful white paper and strong enough for paintings --- it's lovely and the paintings and toe and finger creations turn out beautiful.

My mum also made me wear an overall or apron.

Sweet Grandma --- of course she saved them and treasured them.

I remember our teacher made us wear either long coat or painter's overalls. I remember I wore painter overalls because I had a tendency to wipe my hands on my lap. :)

I have a drawer of bits and pieces I gave my nan when I was little that she kept.

I also made a pottery pigs head at school and dad had that in his bedroom before we moved his bed downstairs.

I make them bibs from the same huge paper roll --- we just tape the sides and make arm holes and one for their necks/heads. I will now admit that I wear a bib too and I paint right along with them and have the time of my life....lol.

I tend to wipe my hands down my front even to today so when I am cooking I still wear an overall or apron.

Oh, he is so incredible ... and I think it's because he truly knows the fraility of we humans so well. He's lived all depths and heights of humanity, and it took devastation and grievous loss before his mother's years of relentless prayers for his life resulted in his heart being touched to this calling pretty late in life.

She kept all our creations. She kept the hand imprints we made in 1st grade art class that were painted in gold paint, and ceramic angel Christmas tree decorations that my twin brother and I painted in 2nd grade art class.

Old t-shirts suffice too --- but the paper bibs are disposable.

The painter overalls worked good because I could slip in and out of them without taking my tennis shoes off. :) When we'd fingerpaint, I had a special pair of shoes I wore so I didn't get my everyday shoes all messy.

Oh I know what you mean, I get a little bit messy when I stir up a bowl of batter in the kitchen. LOL

Wow! Thanks for that link. I know he's led a pretty "interesting" life. He brings up certain parts of his life during his talks. He lives in a cabin in Northwest Montana these days. :)

He especially loves the winters there, where he can have peace and solitude for and he spends most of the winters in quiet reflection. :)

He mentioned during one of his talks that he's on the road most of the year, so the "quiet times" he really takes advantage of.

My grandmother always loved us kids' "Picasso's", she always proudly displayed our Crayola artwork on the fridge. :)

I have a lot of theirs framed and hung on the walls in one of the bedrooms here that they use. They love to see how they've progressed with their artistry. :0)

My grandmother also had this big mayonnaise jar of old pennies that she kept in the pantry below the oven. My brother and I would always get it out and dump the pennies all over the kitchen floor. Then she had an old tin of old sewing buttons that my brother and I liked to play with.

My brother and I would always spend the weekends with my grandparents. By the time we were about 12 years old, my grandparents and brother and I would play several hands of cribbage after grandma cleared the supper table.
