Theres a secret within the news businessa secret probably only veteran reporters and their friends know, but would be loathe to admitreporters don't really like surprises.
Now, that might seem an odd statement to make about people who make their living pushing news. But the unexpected can really mess up the story youve just written, which, in turn, can cause you more work, more stress, and more time at your computer terminal.
As a result of this phenomenon, once the major media have anointed a front-runner for President, they dont like a maverick honing in on hisor this year, herterritory. They want to defend their choice for a given party's nominee because, if some upstart actually makes a contest out of it, it could play havoc with their work schedules.
Consequently, it's not surprising that the mainstream media would just like to see Republicans anoint Rudolph Giuliani as their standard-bearer and be done with it. After all, hes leading in public opinion polls, he makes for good copy, and the media can have a field day with his various attempts at cross-dressing.

rudy will be a terrific candidate and president. Libs hated him, he decreased crime and welfare and increased property values.
Mccain is a traitor
Should be an interesting battle between rudy and mitt.
A sure sign of intellectual dishonesty is to blame others for their own self created problems, whine and call names and refuse to answer a direct question.
LOL. Once again the anti-Rudy crowd fails to provide -- much less endorse -- one single candidate as an alternative option. In both the article and the responses.
And that is why Rudy is doing so well, despite his "left-wing" policies. There is no other dynamic GOP candidate yet opposing him. There just isn't. And them's the cards we've been dealt this time around.
The top two contenders for the demorat nomination, is that your statement?? Maybe true, but then algore is much smarter than rudy. :) LOL
My hero is Winston Churchill. In these times, which of ANY political persuasion comes close?
But there is no difference on those issues between rudy and hitlary, actual their positions mirror each other, it's like they both had dresses on you would see a mirror image. The only difference is that hitlary stands up to pee. :)
But there is no difference on those issues between rudy and hitlary,
How about on defense, the GWOT, foreign policy, taxes, crime, and education? Call me a bad person, but I care about those things more than I care about "family values". I get a much better deal on many key issues with Rudy than with Hillary. There's simply no rational arguement that Hillary would be better on taxes, or any of the above that I just mentioned. You know it and I know it.
Also, I know Rudy can beat Hillary. I like Duncan Hunter, but Hillary has the Clinton fame, cash, organization and momentum to steamroller him. We need someone charismatic and likeable to neutralize 'the Clinton factor', and what staunch conservative icon is going to do it? Gingrich? Be serious.
Rudy ain't perfect, but he can win, and we won't be left as empty handed as the anti-'s are pretending.
Still mirror images of each other, except, rudy has no experience on defense, and no experience on foreign policy( except partying with the united nations) on the other issues they both believe in throwing money at them.
Good morning, Chet
You make a good point about social issues belonging at the state and local level.
However....my question is, will Rudy really follow through with appointing conservative judges? He SAYS he will. How do we know this isn't just an empty campaign promise?
Yes, he is indeed a dynamic candidate and a good manager.
And on terrorism, he would be tough. But I believe most of the other candidates would be tough, also. He's not the only one.
Unfortunately, on illegal immigration, he's soft. NYC is a sanctuary city, and he's happy with that. Also, he's got a new euphemism for "earned citizenship." He calls it regularization.
So on two critical issues (terrorism/illegal immigration)he's only batting 50% with me.
Hunter and Romney's positions are more in line with what I'm looking for.
Regards,
Molly
Still mirror images of each other
If that's your opinion, then that's cool. It's a ridiculous one, and it only shows how off the deep end the anti-Rudys have gone, but you're entitled to it. Rhetoric aside, there's no reason to think that Hillary and Rudy have the same view on the six issues I mentioned above.
It may sound good on FR to argue "Rudy is liberal on abortion and gays, so he's liberal on everything else", but I'm not buying it. Given the polls, it looks like most people aren't buying it, either.
"And to all you gun nuts please note, it takes more than a president to make a law."
You've just made the case that it is best not to trust a more liberal Republican with a Demonrat Congress. What they will do in the name of compromise and shared philosophy...
"And to all you gun nuts please note, it takes more than a president to make a law".
So, if I support the 2nd Amendment, I am a "gun nut"? Yeah, that will really get a lot of support here. Get a clue and listen to yourself.
If you see no difference between Hillorat and Rudy, well, there is no hope. Imagine another 9/11 and picture the reaction of eacjh. Rudy would ans wer with the Marines, Hillorat would send a semi-strong letter. How about taxes, judges, crime, etc?
Who is the traitor?
I am an author.
Writing work on spec is a guarantee of working without being paid. Working for money is much more economical.
Not that your average reporter knows anything about economics. But they know a lot about avoiding work.
Here is an update to that flash. The preparations for the vote are being made and the crucial planning necessary to obtain that voter is in place for those serious about winning.
Now those counting on the arrival of the Unknown Miracle Worker will be waiting for a long time.
Yep. Now is the time to weed out leftist Trojan horses asses like Rudy.
In a letter to its members Friday, the International Association of Fire Fighters excoriated Giuliani for his November 2001 decision to cut back the number of firefighters searching the rubble of Ground Zero for the remains of some 300 fallen comrades.I can see Rudy abandoning military casualties in the field. The 280,000-member union accused him of carelessly expediting the cleanup process with a scoop-and-dump operation after the recovery of millions of dollars in gold, silver and other assets from the Bank of Nova Scotia that had been buried
I wonder how many other little favors Rudy did for certain interests in the wake of 9/11. He has a lot of selfish interests and agendas.
