Where Were Carbon Offsets When This Kid Could Have Used Them?

With all the debate over the legitimacy of carbon offsets, I was reminded of this story in the Bible: (Matthew 19:16-22)
16 ¶ And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
To bad this kid didn't have sin offsets he could buy.

The Liberal elite want solutions that involve wearing a ribbon, buying a t-shirt, holding a concert or just writing a check. Heaven forbid that they actually be required to give up their "perks" for any serious length of time. Another fine example of this shallow mindset is the deaths of Lady Di and Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa lived with the poor and devoted all of her time and energy to them. Lady Di, a good woman, helped the poor when she could but retired to her mansions, yachts and life of luxury and privilege at the end of the day. But when they passed within days of each other, the world's media obsessed about Lady Di's death, but paid far less attention to the passing of Mother Teresa, a true saint. As the Bible proves, this kind of shallow hypocrisy is nothing new. It has always existed and always will so long as there are human beings, particularly Liberal human beings, on the planet.
Funny how a 2,000 year-old book can still be so relevant, isn't it?

Even if the world has its values all screwed up, God keeps accurate accounts.

The Church did sell "indulgences" at one point in time, which was basically a "sin offset".

I can imagine Jesus taking a whip to the carbon offset lenders. My preference would be a Louisville Slugger, but that doesn't seem quite appropriate for Prince of Peace.

A computer is "stuff" -- Maybe you should give yours away to a homeless person. Well? For years my wife and I "recycled" older computers to give to those who could not afford them. Not tooting our horn, but a note to others that an older machine can be of great value to somebody. Old copies of Windows are hard to come by, but there are more-than-just-usable Linux distros available now.

Have you ever noticed how fast those old machines seem when using old Windows (95, 98)? I suppose once they get on the Internet and get all screwed up with spyware they run just as bad as the new ones.
Fun to run some of those old games on them, too.

Selling indulgences?
I protest.

It is not having stuff that is the problem. The problem stems from wealthy Liberals who have mansions, private jets, multiple cars and so on, telling those of us who don't have such things that we need to cut down on our consumption. Being rich is not a sin. Neither is being poor. But for the rich to demand actions of others that they themselves are not willing to do is hypocrisy.

Liberals like to talk about sacrifice. In their minds they don't have to. Let others do the hard work and liberals can enjoy the fruits of it.

No, he needed wealth offsets he could buy. Then he would be wealth neutral. Makes as much sense as carbon offsets.

I don't have a problem with liberals being rich. For me, that's not an issue. The issue is the distance between their idealistic rhetoric and their actual conduct. People would admire them more if they lived up to their own prescriptions. But they don't and that's the problem. Liberals are elitists and they just to refuse to acknowledge it. There's nothing more off-putting than a superior person trying to pretend he is one of the guys. Its phony. Just think John Kerry going duck hunting.

The utter hypocrisy of the global warming zealots like Al Gore John Edwards and RFK jr. are what really galls me. They would have the rest of us drop our quality of life by giving up the freedom to travel by raising gasoline prices and the cost of automobiles, forcing us to pay ever higher prices for electricity from "green" sources and live in environmentally "friendly" cracker box homes while they would continue to fly private jets, live in mansions and sooth their conscience from their wasteful energy use by buying phony carbon offsets.

Have you ever noticed how fast those old machines seem when using old Windows (95, 98)? I was shocked to see how quickly an old Win95 box booted. And I used to think it was slow...
