RAPID CITY, South Dakota A show where French performance artists vomited, simulated sex and threw fake feces was stopped by the promoter, who quickly apologized.
Lisou Prout and Jean-Louis Costes also stripped and spit potato chips on the crowd at a local arts center.
Audience members said the act depicted American life from birth to death. The show was stopped shortly after a simulated sex act involving a carrot.
"I was told they were performance artists from France and were highly recommended. I think I was told wrong," said promoter Kevin Dorsman, who stopped the show.
It was much too extreme for Rapid City, population 60,000 or so, but well done as performance art, Dorsman added.
"My understanding is nobody had any idea, and these two performers just decided to drop their drawers or whatever," said Barb Evenson, who handles rentals for the Dahl Arts Center.
Dorsman stressed that the art center had nothing to do with bringing in the group.

"I was told they were performance artists from France and were highly recommended. I think I was told wrong," said promoter
The person who gave the recommendation must have been a stupid libnut.

If Mr. Dorsman didn't check out these scumbags beforehand, he is too stupid to be running an art center.
He's also stupid if he thinks anything this disgusting can be "performed well." And if he thinks it's somehow any more appropriate in New York than in South Dakota.

This is the sort of thing gives Performance Art a bad name. Especially the bit with the carrot. Now, smearing yourself with chocolate, that's OK.

I had a brief exchange with another Freeper over fine art, and why I abandoned the FA world after getting my bachelors. This is the kind of stuff that passes for art, now, and I do my art and don't care about the FA world.
To me, it's totally irrelevent, and if it wasn't funded by the government, would largely crash and burn. There's plenty of good artwork out there, but it's being done by people for an audience that wants to pay for it. I have no interest in the National Endowment for the Arts No One Wants to See. I just wish I could get them to quit making me pay for it (I'll guarantee you government money was involved in this).

"I was told they were performance artists from France and were highly recommended. I think I was told wrong," said promoter "performance artists from France"
And he's claiming he wasn't warned?

If it so freeking well done why did Dorksman pull it? Oh, now I understand, it because his audience was just too stupid to appreciate it. What a piece of work this guy/gal is! I hope the good people of South Dakota drop kick him/her to Canada.

What were Democrats doing participating? On second thought, never mind.

I would have thought the word France would have tipped him off.

A show where French performance artists vomited, simulated sex and threw fake feces was stopped by the promoter, who quickly apologized. Pshaw! French poseurs. They'd better add a dominatrix, a satanic Indian, and a whiskey bottle if they want their little show to play FRisco, baby!
