Former Sen. Baker pushes Fred Thompson for president (Thompson supported McCain)
Scripps News ^ | March 9, 2007 | RICHARD POWELSON

Former Senate Republican leader Howard Baker said Friday he is urging his friend Fred Thompson, a TV actor and former U.S. senator, to run for president and is encouraging others to draft him.

Among potential complications in a Thompson race is that he is good friends with McCain, a current presidential candidate. Thompson endorsed McCain for president in his 2000 bid.

Baker said his wife, former Sen. Nancy Kassebaum Baker, R-Kan., already supports McCain for president and Baker said he too might back McCain if Thompson does not run.

How many of those who voted know that Thompson is a big McCain supporter?

Why don't you just admit you are a McCain supporter, instead of all the pretense and the long, long posts.

umm how would he split the Republican party if he wins the nomination? does that mean you wouldn't vote for him and let crusty win?

Thompson has NO chance of winning the nomination, but if he does, Hillary or whoever the Dem nominee is, will beat him, effortlessly, as I said.

It is really amazzing, that people learned nothing even after the CONSERVATIVES ELECTED BILL CLINTON, by "punishing" Bush I, for not being "conservative enough" by voting for Perot or staying home, by handing Congress over to the Dems just now in 2006 and now they are H8ll bent on handing Hillary the presidency with a Dem Congress, all in the name of "conservatism".

I think Hillary would defeat McCain or Rudy Toot pretty easily too. A left-wing Republican just doesn't have anything to offer either side. I think it would be true of Romney too but he might put up a better showing.

You have nothing to back that statement, pure BS on your part, just polls, and you have already lost the one on FR by a large margin.

If you consider FR polls representative of the general voting population, you are so far detached from reality that you belong with Peter Pan.

Well seems to me that the Rudybots have used the FR polls in some of their arguments. Still doesn't answer my question what proof to you have for your statement? other than polls?

NO one on the Rudy ping list has said they would jump to Thompson.

You monitor the posts of everyone on your ping list?

We Rudy people are not worried about Thompson. I would worry about him if I were a Duncan Hunter person because Thompson will steal any thunder that freepers had for Duncan Hunter. Rudy can deal with Thompson or anyone else. But having Thompson run will screw up Hunter. You don't seem to care about that at all.

Hunter is conservative. Thompson is conservative. Conservatives will be happy with either of them. Your cult-of-personality Rudy posts are getting creepy.

Lets cut through your obvious hatred for the Mayor and blame that you place on him for the terrorist attacks of Tuesday..

Heres the whole article.

The Hero
One of the running gags of the Giuliani years was ‘‘the bunker’’ — press shorthand for the $15 million Emergency Command Center the mayor built on the 23rd floor of 7 World Trade Center in 1998. The bunker symbolized the mayor’s bunker mentality — his love of crisis, his almost delighted sense that a besieged city needed an untiring and unsmiling defender.

We all change our mind, but the trouble is we should always give credit where credit is do, it does not mean one supports that person for president, but if they did good you have to be honest and do the right thing!

This is my bone with you Reagan Man, and this was the quality that made Ronald Reagan Magnificent he was big enought to acknowledge the good in others!

Excuuuuuse me - I heard the Thompson interview on Marc Levin, and he said that the President should pardon Libby - the trial is a farce. He is also pro life and favors the increase in troops in Iraq. I like Fred Thompson - I just wish he would turn around and produce the producer of Law and Order, Dick Wolf, in the mouth for his constant badmouthing of conservatives and religious Christians and Jews on his shlocky shows.

Colorful and LOUD! LOL

I can't help it if you find my question offensive. That is your problem. Deal with it.

As you can see, I don't blame Rudy for 9/11, nor do I hate him, but I never approved of his liberal politics. I hate liberalism. Been battling liberalism in the political arena of ideas for almost 40 years, and have no desire to turn off my political motor at this stage of the game. Liberalism remains the enemy of conservatism and the enemy of the Republic.

So what is the bottomline for you. If you do not support Rudy --- which is what I extrapolate from your rhetoric --- why do you defend Giuliani? Its revolting to watch self-professed conservatives support/promote/defend Rudy at every turn.

Btw, up until last year I thought Rudy was a fiscal conservative. Then I did my own research and found out he left NYCity with a huge deficit and massive debt. Rudy`s just another fiscal liberal. Just like his progressive California-dreaming pal, Govinator A.Schwarzy.

So, if Rudy turns out to be the GOP nominee, would you vote for him?
