The Mitt Romney I Know
Tampa Tribune ^ | March 10, 2007 | Toni Jennings

Posted on 03/10/2007 12:56:35 PM PST by circumbendibus

Last week, Mitt Romney traveled to Washington and dominated a conference of more than 5,000 conservative political leaders. It is no surprise that Gov. Romney had such success. He represents the best virtues of conservative thinking and leadership: He embraces innovation, optimism, transformation, and strength. I am proud to be the honorary chairwoman of his efforts in Florida as he campaigns for our nation's highest office.

Romney's remarks at the Conservative Political Action Conference articulated exactly why he is the best fit to serve as our next president. He outlined, point-by-point, the steps we need to take in Washington to confront the challenges of our time. While others simply give lip-service to the kind of problems America faces, such as the threat of terror, federal overspending and Washington inaction, Romney spelled out solutions - solutions that will work.

In business, Romney founded one of our nation's most successful venture capital firms and helped launch many successful companies. As a businesswoman myself, I know that running a successful business is hard work: You have to make payroll, you have to keep new business coming in the door, and you have to pay taxes. Romney understands that higher taxes hurt the people who create jobs in this country - and has pledged to maintain the low taxes that have been at the center of our economic expansion.

Romney is a strong leader. At the Olympics in 2002, he turned around an organization mired in scandal and facing financial crisis, and the games were a dramatic success.

As chief executive of Massachusetts, he brought fiscal discipline back to the Statehouse while providing a responsible plan for every citizen to have health insurance.

In foreign policy, Romney believes that the best ally of peace in the world is a strong America. He supports the mission in Iraq and honors the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform.

While we work to secure lasting stability in Iraq, Romney has laid out a comprehensive strategy to meet the threat posed by Iran. He is not waiting to be elected but already taking action, campaigning for American pension funds to divest from the irrational regime in Tehran.

On domestic policy, Romney is a fresh thinker and someone who enjoys looking at old problems with new approaches. When thrust into center stage in our nation's culture wars, Romney did not just talk about traditional values - he took action to defend them.

I have been very fortunate to get to know Mitt Romney and his wife, Ann, on a personal level. Mitt and Ann live their private lives in exactly the same way they live their public lives - with compassion, honesty, faithfulness, and an optimistic and hopeful belief in the strength of the American people.

I look forward to telling Floridians about Romney, and why they should believe in him - because I know that Mitt Romney is the strong conservative leader right for the job.

Toni Jennings is the former lieutenant governor of Florida.

Romney continues to build an organization of coservative political leaders. You can tell a lot about a man by the people who surround him.

"You can tell a lot about a man by the people who surround him."

Cong. Pete Hoekstra
Sheriff Joe Arapaio
Jeb Bush' former staff/campaign workers
Atty. Jay Sekulow
Cong. Dennis Hastert

Romney is easily the best candidate.

What is the difference between a polygamist and a divorced man, a philanderer or both and a rapist? The polygamist is honest about his relationships, because it was lawful. (Giuliani/Gingrich; Clinton)

Romney is a good man. The Massachusetts connection is a killer, though. It is very difficult to reconcile voting for somebody who the simple socialist scum of Massachusetts - - home of Kennedy, Kerry, and elementary school "fisting" - - voted for. I could probably do it if I had to, but I'd need a long shower. With Lava soap.

Mormanism is regarded by many as a cult. I don't know that much about it to say but I do remember when JFK was running and the ignorance abounded that we would all have to become Roman Catholic's. At this point in time, I don't see how a persons' religious belief's would affect the way he governs.........unless of course the candidate is a member of the Church of Satan or an Atheist. ;) You shouldn't hold a person responsible for what their ancestors did, right or wrong......I mean isn't that the problem with this reparations for slavery crap?

I have a theory about that. The people from Marxachussetts are smart enough to elect a Republican as the Executive of their state to balance their budget, create jobs, and deal with the crime issues...and greedy enough to elect free-spending, amoral Democrats to bring home the bacon to their districts, and pass "feel-good" laws that allow them to live decadent lives without worrying about their own moral short-comings.

That's an excellent theory.
Yet they just elected a worthless scumbag like Patrick....

"Yet they just elected a worthless scumbag like Patrick...."

I forgot: They also have short memories. The budget is balanced, crime is down, and the employment situation is good. They must have felt that they don't need a Republican for now.

But don't worry...
Patrick will screw things up, and they'll be a Republican in the Governor's mansion once again.

"But could he win his home state of Massachusetts?"

No. But he could easily pick off some of the more vulnerable moderate blue states.

While I certainly agree with the general thrust of your comment, I feel compelled to make a point. Mormonism, of course, refers to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church is no more a cult than the Boy Scouts of America, which incidentally has more Mormons as leaders and youth than any other denomination.

The only reason for the religious racism name calling to which The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been subject is simple religious bigotry and persecution, justified by a perception that the Church's beliefs are far out...which they are not. The Church simply does not believe the mystical nonsense of the Nicean Creed. Instead, the Church proclaims that Jesus is the Christ, fully resurrected, and like Peter asserted, the Son of the Living God. If Christ's father is the Living God, as Peter and The Church proclaims, then God is neither dead, nor does the Nicean mumble jumble accurately describe God and the Godhead.

Because these perceptions challenge the creed-based heuristic of the "popular" religions, many have taken to calling The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints a cult. Strange isn't it? A Church that proclaims that Jesus is the Christ, that Jesus actively directs his earthly affairs through living prophets and apostles, and whose members try in every way to follow the example and teachings of Jesus, is slammed with an insulting and mocking charge of being a cult, solely because The Church does not believe the philosphophical machinations and biases of a notoriously wicked political figure (Emperor Constantine).

Go figure...

Here we go again with the Mormon crap. Can't talk about the issues, let's just bash someone's faith.

Having known many Mormons / LDS, I am far more concerned about Mit's stance on gun rights..
Likewise, taxes, property rights, other individual rights, are far more important than religious belief.

Now, if he was a Socialist, I'd be concerned..

Lava soap would be better than the 'Lye' soap needed after a vote for Hillary! May I suggest Lava Liquid soap:
Does Lava Liquid have the same cleaning power as the traditional Lava Bar?
Lava Liquid contains the same pumice scrubbing power as the famous Lava Bar that has been cleaning dirty hands for generations. While Lava Liquid offers the convenience of pump delivery, it also contains special moisturizers to help keep hands smooth and soft - even with repeated usage.
Keep washing. At least some of Romney's Massachusetts scum washes off. Firstly, remember that he won there with only 49.8% of the vote over a female Democrat, Shannon O'Brien (44.9%) with the rest of the votes taken by female Green, Libertarian and Independent candidates. Secondly, remember he left office with 34% approval and 65% disapproval overall (SurveyUSA poll 11/17/2006) with +/- breakdowns of 75/20, 20/79 and 36/61 for R, D and Ind. and 66/33, 34/65 and 13/84 for conservative, 'moderate' and liberal ideologies. He must have done something right to generate those polling numbers in this miserable state. Whether his record is good enough, each Freeper will have to decide on his own; but at worst supporting him should still take less heavy lifting than the Big Dig.

But could he win his home state of Massachusetts?

Can Rudy win his home state of New York over Hillary or even Obama? I'm not sure he could have beat her in the senate race he declined and she's grown stronger since. Picking up either's blue state would likely cinch their win, but their positives are more likely important in some recently purple states. Romney's family connections in Michigan may make that a more likely switch than either's home state.

If you don't like Mitt's positions, wait 5 minutes.

Odds are they will change.
