You said it. How did Darwin get into that list of "egocentric Franco-Germanic thinkers such as Hegel, Comte, Rousseau, Spencer, Babeuf, Darwin, Freud, Marx, and Engel"?

Darwin was educated at Edinburgh in the same tradition that gave rise to Adam Smith and Benjiman Franklin.

Please consider reading some of the other articles Ms. Kimball has published.

She has drawn a dead-bang bead on the very heart of the social/political conflict we call the culture war -- right_vs_left -- whatever other convenient labels we choose to describe the ongoing 50-year clash of American values.

Linda's work is documented with painstaking accuracy and thorough documentation -- so it isn't a light and airy little essay -- requires reflection and deep thought.

BUT....

If we don't THINK this all the way through, heed the cautions, and act/respond accordingly - we will lose.

Have a great day

While it is instructive to compare the American and the French revolutions, and I agree with the author that nihilism and the desire to re-create human beings is at the core of totalitarianism, I still find the article to be a grab-bag of poor arguments.

I am not ready to blame everything on the atheists and agnostics, even though I am not one of them. We have had our share of "Godless" communists. However, Fascism generally did not reject religion and Nazism tried to create a new, pagan religion. And then we have the Islamofascists who think that God is telling them what to do.

The biggest thing I got from the article was almost incidental. I will have to look up that quote where Hillary congratulated herself on being big enough to think of her cleaning lady as a human being. I do so hope that the quote is true, although it is rather chilling if you think about it. That is so in keeping with the condescending nature of modern leftism, with its fake populism. Hillary, who goes to black churches even though she is "tard" so she can praise the "Lawd," is such a compassionate person that, in her better moments, she tries to remind herself that a common laborer is a human being. Such lofty idealism!

German was the birthplace of socialism.
Marx led to Communism in the East. National Socialism and Hitler in Germany from the right. The Anglo-American emphasis on private property rights and the rule of law combined with a special kind of individualism.

You have no right to be here.

And whether you like it or not, the Moderators, are laughing, behind your back...

But take heart, amidst the deepening gloom, that your dog is finally getting enough cheese.

Cheers!

Well, I guess the article would read about the same if one just put in "FR" and "DC" :-P

Cheers!

All of these groups have one thing in common - the belief that any atrocity in the present moment is acceptable if it helps create a utopia in the future.

The article misses that point. A Godly movement that believes in slaughtering heretics to "immanentize the eschaton" is exactly the same as a Godless Marxism that believes in slaughtering capitalists to create a workers' paradise.

OB--You said it. How did Darwin get into that list of "egocentric Franco-Germanic thinkers such as Hegel, Comte, Rousseau, Spencer, Babeuf, Darwin, Freud, Marx, and Engel"?

If you were to research and study even that which does not lend itself to making you 'feel good,' you'd soon discover exactly why Darwin is on that list---right where he belongs.

Such emotion! Your reaction is like the fellow who stumbled upon a coiled rattler, and not having a gun with which to shoot it, tried to kill it with vituperation. And when that didn't work, tried using sarcasm.

I agree. The philosophical roots of our founders trace back to the Greeks and Romans.
