A violent Winnipeg gang member who is facing a deportation order to his native Somalia was recently given a reprieve by a federal court judge who said the Somalian's life would be in danger if he returned. Federal Judge Sean Harrington said Hussein Jilaow doesn't deserve to remain in Canada but concluded Jilaow would likely be killed if he were deported according to the travel plans outlined by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
"I have no doubt whatsoever that Mr. Jilaow is a public menace who does not deserve to remain here," Harrington wrote, adding he's been convicted 13 times since 1999 for violent offences.
"I doubt that many persons subject to removal... have clean hands. However that is no reason to send them to a place where those hands may be chopped off."
Jilaow, 26, was given a three-year prison sentence in October for making a series of threats against guards at the downtown remand centre. Jilaow, a member of the Mad Cowz street gang, was at the Remand Centre in July 2005 when he got into a fight with several other inmates.

What I fail to understand is...
Hundreds of millions of people live in countries where these types of penalties are administered. Do they all deserve to live in Canada? What makes this guy special?
This judge has found a way to get this guy out of Canada and keep his conscience clean. The punk will end up in Minneapolis which has the largest Somali community in North America. Coming to my town soon.
It's more important to protect him than to protect Canada's own citizens. Liberal logic at work.
Oh lol....has the world gone insane? What about the lives of innocent people in danger from this gang member? I guess they don't matter to liberal judges. The West will surely fall due to it's own stupidity.
It sounds to me as though you have a judge here that should be sent to Somalia.
In my best Church Lady voice, "Isn't that special".
HUH? I think I just croaked and woke up in different planet!
I am not a lawyer; clearly this is idiotic, but it may be idiocy on the part of the Canadian charter on human rights rather than this judge. I do not know how much leeway he has to deport someone to a country if he faces punishment that violates the human rights charter. Extradition trials have probably established a precedent on issues like these.
Perhaps the good people of Canada should take it upon themselves to fix this little problem by their own hands since cowardice and insanity amongst black-robed tyrants knows no borders.
