Unfortunately the Constitution is quickly being recycled into toilet paper.
I'm afraid that started with the 17th Amendment (about which there is some question about the legitimacy of its passage). The popular election of senators has turned the upper body of the legislature into nothing more than a glorified House of Representatives with six year terms and is, IMHO, one of the primary causes for the development of the 'career politician.' With it, the individual states lost their body of advocacy in the Federal Government and we're living with the results today.
