Sodom, where the word sodomy originated ... not surprised high school kids don't know that. Today we give Sodomites SPECAIAL rights and EXALT them - totally contrary to what God clearly says about sin.

Not at all surprising, what did he expect they have been trying for years to take religion out of our lives.

I didn't need another story to convince me that Americans are generally stupid, but thanks. This one covers things most others don't. I guess this extends, for me, the list of things about which Americans are stupid.
But at least the public schools are acheiving their intended goals.

I'm not exactly taken with the idea of government schools and liberal teachers unions teaching our kids about the bible. You can imagine what kinds of scriptual interpretations would be taught.

Thread title does not match article title
Correct title:"A call for required study of the Bible"
When the article title does not reflect the content you can add a comment in parentheses like this
A call for required study of the Bible (Students think that Sodom and Gomorrah were a married couple)
The mods on many news discussion sites like the title to match the original title to help check for duplicates.

Strange bedfellows award of the day:
Jeremy Gunn of the American Civil Liberties Union, holder of a doctorate in religion from Harvard, "I strongly believe that there is a serious lack of understanding about religion in America, indeed everywhere in the world. So it would be valuable for there to be more education about religion, as long as it is done in a constitutionally acceptable way."
Who'd have thought there are things that can be agreed with, even from the ACLU?

While public schools are partly to blame, so is the lack of intellectual curiosity on the part of many of the students. If you want to learn in public school, you can (speaking as a graduate of public education in Ohio).

He cites surveys showing that most Americans can't even name one of the four biblical gospels and that many high school students think that Sodom and Gomorrah were a married couple. If this is true, what are they teaching in Sunday schools? Jews and Christians should know Sodom and Gomorrah are vanquished places names. The Protestant and Catholics should be able to name the gospels. Is everybody now a unitarian universalist? The believe in some sort or spirit, group hug type. I know they shudder at the thought of a Judeo-Christian God and snicker at Christ. They wouldn't know a Gospel from gossip.
