They made for successful but jealous partners, a pair of outsize talents and egos whose relationship crumbled more than a decade ago in a series of public spats.
But as Rudolph W. Giuliani runs for president, he appears to be mending fences with William J. Bratton, his former police commissioner in New York and now the police chief of Los Angeles. On a campaign swing through Los Angeles on Monday, Mr. Giuliani met privately with Mr. Bratton, according to aides to both men.
The last time the two met was in 1996 in New York, Lt. Paul Vernon, a Los Angeles police spokesman, wrote in an e-mail message confirming the encounter.
As mayor of New York City for eight years, Mr. Giuliani never shied from making enemies, and he rarely reached out to former antagonists. His style ran more to ignoring such critics, with the occasional disparaging comment thrown in.

((((((RUDY PING)))))
Makes sense. Trying to make Bratton a buddy so he doesn't tell tales.
Bratten did enough tale telling when he got fired. Believe me. I remember it well. There is nothing he can say that he hasnt' already to the NY Slimes, NY Daily News and the NY Post during that time.
Absolutely NOTHING.
Rudy made Bratton's success possible.
More's the tragedy for Los Angeles.
I'm glad you added the parenthetical-- At first I thought he was trying to get an ex-wife to take him back... :-)
LOL! Well what do you want from the NY Slimes. They haven't stopped hating Rudy from when he first ran for Mayor.
I remember that well, too.
But this is a national campaign with national media and I'm sure Rudy would prefer to have Bratton on friendly terms.
No doubt there's a team of former NYC officials assembling to "swiftboat" Rudy. I see it now, "Team of 50 former Rudy admin officials release book, blah blah" -- the Today Show and 60 minutes segments. It will happen.
Excerpt:
Bad as the 1995 parade was, it was no match for last year's debacle ("Stonewall at 25," October 1994). On June 26, 1994, scores of fully naked men and women marched in an illegal parade yelling "F___ You" at those on the steps of St. Patrick's Cathedral. They masturbated in the street, pointed their middle fingers at the Cathedral, did satanic dances and dressed as cardinals, nuns, and priests. All of this was done in full view of Police Commissioner William Bratton and the New York City police force. Mayor Rudolph Giuliani watched from above in a helicopter. No one was arrested for anything.
Also McCain and Romney are planning to get Rudy. That was in the Politico today. Rudy will stay above the fray and make McCain and Romney look like idiots.
