Giuliani leads GOP pack, doing it his way

He's pulled far ahead of the man long presumed to be the party's front-runner for the 2008 presidential nomination Sen. John McCain of Arizona and undercut other hopefuls, most prominently Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts.
In survey after survey of Republicans, Giuliani is leaving his rivals in the dust with double-digit leads. And in key swing states, pollsters have found he would beat the Democratic front-runner, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York. Even some leading social conservatives are putting aside their differences over abortion and gay rights to join Team Giuliani.
The Giuliani surge may be a sign that social issues will not be the litmus tests they long have been for GOP presidential candidates.
Still, some social conservatives are making peace with him. After his speech to the Hoover Institution, a questioner noted that conservative columnist Maggie Gallagher, who had voted against him as mayor because of his abortion stance, recently wrote that she would support him for president because of concern about national security.

Understandable from a logistics standpoint. Otherwise the moderators would probably spend inordinate amounts of time cleaning up guerilla postings from throwaway IDs created by DUmmies.
Still, a pity in this particular case.

Thanks for this excellent report.
As Democrats prepare to launch their Reassuring America's Enemies Act of 2008, Republicans know the importance of victory over the troika: terrorists, the fifth-column media, the traitor party.

"And the outcome of the Scooter Libby trial has done nothing to encourage me. Fitzgerald was allowed to continue an investigation after he had already made the discovery he was commissioned to investigate."
Know this. If Bush admin fights it, the media and Democrats call for his impeachment, even if Bush is within his rights.
The only real answer is to WIN. To beat the Democrats in the election booth.

No; Newt's negatives at 64% are far worse than Hillary's, at 48%.
Hillary could beat Hunter without even trying and the same is true for Newt's chances against her.
I don't know if Romney understands how to beat her, but Rudy does.
As for the rest of the pack.............they don't stand a a chance of beating Hillary or Obama!
John Glenn easily ran circles around Fred Thompson, at a Congressional Hearing and made a fool out of him.
To: nopardons
That's not the numbers I saw in polls, they were comparable.

Gee....sometimes you claim that polls are meaningless, but now you are claiming that my poll numbers about Newt are wrong? LOL
There have been many different polls and most of them show Newt's negatives where I stated them to be.
To: WOSG
Newt's other problem, vis-a-vis Hillary, is that both Clintons have not only easily hobbled him in the past; but, he spent lots of '06 traveling around with Hillary, helping her sell her new and improved health care policy and other "ideas".

I think you have the wrong site, the religious bigotry site is on DU. If your want to walk of cliff, be my guest. but don't expect the rest of us to follow suit.
I think that most Pro-2nd amendment and pro-lifers have stated pretty clearly that that won't vote for Rudy he's just to extreme. You can post your cute little messages about how we will be at fault and we don't get it and what not, if that makes you feel good, have at it. Ain't gonna change a thing, and as much as you hate Socons, you still need them to win.

re: the media and Democrats call for his impeachment
I say bring it on! This is where we lose the battle every time. It's like we're on the team bus, on our way to the game when someone's cell phone rings and they answer it, only to be told how pumped up the other team is and how many fans of the other team are already there cheering and looking really confident. So what do we do, we turn the bus around and head for home, giving the other team a victory they probably couldn't have won on the field. The sad thing is it goes down in the books, and in the MSM as a loss! Oh sure, maybe in the record books there will be an asterisk or something to show it was a forfeit, but the damage is done. We've done this over and over, especially the last eight years.
Let 'em spin their wheels on impeachment, chances are they'll come out looking as silly and impotent on that as they look right now on an Iraqi withdrawal timetable.
Politics is a much perception as anything, and the perception right now is that the Dems are in front and pulling away. Not so. Their 'takeover' of Congress was by the thinnest of margins and so far all they've done is fight among themselves. Pelosi is a gift from God to the conservative cause, but only if we have the cojones to see it for what it is and take FULL advantage of it.
The Dems have always depended on the maxim that the best defense is a strong offense. We'll they're about offensive as they get and I'm tired of having them bluff us into forfeit after forfeit while the MSM cheers them on and reports it as though they're kicking are ass all over the field. We're not even getting to the field. Our bus frequently doesn't even get out of the parking lot. Hell, we're so polite, and gun shy, we call and cancel the bus two days before the game.
The people who decide elections aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer. They are very impressionable, and the MSM/Lefties have come to depend on that fact to win.

Rudy is making his naysayers look like fools, so far. After seeing Tommy Dales' sweet graphic about Rudy supporters, I thought I would return the favor. It's only fair. We're now even, Tommy, LOL.

Hahaha! Great stuff! And indeed, Rudy is making his critics look like fools, while the preferred candidate on FR, Duncan Hunter, bounces around in the polls between 1% and an asterisk. :-)

Im pro-choice. Im pro-gay rights, Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. No, I have not supported that, and I dont see my position on that changing, he responded. Source: CNN.com, Inside Politics Dec 2, 1999 http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Rudy_Giuliani_Abortion.htmANDERSON COOPER 360 DEGREES (November 14, 2006)
RUDY GIULIANI (R), FORMER MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY: I'm pro- choice. I'm pro-gay rights. KING: Giuliani supports a woman's right to an abortion, and back in 1999, he opposed a federal ban on late-term abortions.
GIULIANI: No, I have not supported that, and I don't see my position on that changing.
KING: Immigration could be another presidential landmine. Back in 1996, Mayor Giuliani went to federal court to challenge new federal laws requiring the city to inform the federal government about illegal immigrants.
JEFFREY: He took the side of illegal immigrants in New York City against the Republican Congress.
KING: Giuliani opposes same-sex marriage but as mayor, he supported civil unions and extending health and other benefits to gay couples. He also supported the assault weapons ban and other gun control measures opposed by the National Rifle Association.
GIULIANI: I'm in favor of gun control. I'm pro-choice.
Republican Big-Wigs Support Pro-Abortion Event in NY
Pro-abortion Governor George Pataki and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who also supports unrestricted abortion, are co-chairs of the 2000 Choice Award Presentation to be held on May 30 at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. The event is sponsored by the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition, a group that is campaigning for the removal of the pro-life plank from the Republican National Platform.
