Giuliani sells consulting firm to Macquarie
Land Line Magazine ^ | March 7, 2007 | David Tanner

Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani has sold his consulting firm to the Australian company involved in the 75-year lease of the Indiana Toll Road and the privatization of other U.S. infrastructure.

The New York Times reported that Macquarie Bank of Australia – parent company of Macquarie Infrastructure Group – has acquired Giuliani Capital Advisors.

Giuliani reportedly profited between $70 million and $90 million from the sale of the consulting and investment company he founded in 2004. A campaign spokeswoman said in a statement that the transaction was part of Giuliani’s plan to focus on his campaign.

Meanwhile, Macquarie continues to reign as a big player in the toll road business.

When Illinois and Indiana rolled out the red carpet to private investors, Macquarie and a Spanish company Cintra took them up on the invitation and shelled out billions.

The two companies combined in 2005 to pay the state of Illinois $1.83 billion to lease the eight-mile Chicago Skyway and keep the tolls for 99 years. The same consortium paid the state of Indiana $3.85 billion in 2006 for the rights to the 157-mile Indiana Toll Road.

In a move in January to broaden its investment base in the U.S., Macquarie snapped up 40 community newspapers in Texas and Oklahoma.

So Guiliani is in this up to his eyeballs. I guess it is all legal but why do I have the feeling that he would sell our souls to the devil?

I believe Giuliani has out done Hillary with her commodity investment. I wonder which one is the bigger crook?

Unfortunately, I think the settlement with his last wife was equal to the gross national product of the US from 1932 to 2006.

Don't you just hate rich people?

There should be a law against making too much money!

Cintra is the same company that Texas has been dealing with for the Trans-Texas Corridor garbage. This should read private FOREIGN investors.

Anyone get the feeling that we long ago lost what the founders created?

I don't regret Guiliani making money but did he really DO anything after 9/11 but clean the mess up? And for that he gets major bucks and a shot at the presidency? Seems to me that like Bush and his millions off the taxpayers for Texas stadium almost all these people have gotten rich off the taxpayers in some way. Just the fact that Rudy has done a deal with Cintra takes him off my list.

Gore, Clintons, Bush, etc. all multi-millionaires. For what? "Public service". Yea, sure.

Giuliani is a democrat in (sheep’s) republican clothing. I would not vote for him if my very life depended on it.

It's the new craze(R)! Don't raise taxes, borrow up the ying-yang, and sell off (or lease out) revenue producing assets to private (foreign) investors for large lump-sum amounts to fund government. All under the guise of "public private partnerships." Big-business "partnered" with government will quickly destroy sovereignty and individual rights, IMO. But in the meantime, bankers, politicians, and international 'financiers' are getting along quite well.

Sorry, that's a bit incorrect. Romney got his vast fortune the old fashioned way -- he inherited it. Baine Capital increased the size of his fortune, but his Dad was insanely wealthy to begin with.

There should be a law against making too much money!

I am sure there wasn't any insider knowledge on either Giuliani nor Hillary. LOLOLOLOOL Yeah, right!!!!!!!!! Do you really think these politicians are on the up and up? Giuliani just happens to sell his 3 year old consulting firm to a Spanish bank that will be collecting taxes, tolls, from Texans for the next 50 years. I'll bet his fingernails are bleeding from working so hard with a pencil. Giuliani's lobbying firm of Bracwell and Giuliani will b e on the side of the toll road in the eminent domain cases agains the taxpayers. Nice work if you can get it.

Actually, he sold it to Macquarie (the Aussies), vs. Cintra (the Spaniards).
--same idea, though.

Of course, one wonders who the real investors in these firms are.
One thing for sure, they are becoming the new overlords.
