Well, there's some evidence out there, including this from the Wall Street Journal poll today: “Fully three of four Republicans—including a majority of those backing the former New York City mayor—say they would have reservations if they learned Mr. Giuliani supports abortion rights and supports civil unions for gay and lesbians couples.”

What I don't understand is what hole most of these Republicans are living in who don't know Rudy's views. Pretty much every report on Rudy I've seen mentions his liberal views on social issues. Exactly how long do we have to wait before we can start getting some reliable polling?

Here in Chicago, they did a poll on that very topic. Even here in Chicago, over 70% of Republicans polled has no idea where he stood on the issues.

It has to do with location. In the Northeast and greater NY area, their is more familiarity with Rudy. Outside of that, he rides a reputation as "America's Mayor."

The Head of the IL GOP, Andy McKenna, wasn't even aware of where Rudy stood on many issues!

After the poll, he started work on "rethinking his position", is engineering "change of heart", began burying older stories, and hired a consultant to explain how he was "previously misunderstood".

Conservatives have been lulled into a very dangerous place, falsely believing they are getting all the news they need to know from "so called conservative" radio talk show hosts who tell them as much. That's why no one knows diddly about Rudy's negatives. Conservatives are wrongly assuming if there was any bad news in regards to Rudy that they would have heard it from their guys on the radio.
