What an interesting day for golf in the nations capital.
Among other things, Tiger Woods did not rule out politics in his future. The national media got wind of AT&Ts title role in Tigers new tournament on, yes, an AT&T conference call. And PGA TOUR commissioner Tim Finchem didnt dismiss Tigers foundation partnering again with the TOUR somewhere down the road.
Tiger Woods makes his announcement Tuesday. (WireImage)The focus now is on the new AT&T National Finchem said, choosing his words carefully. But when I asked him about the possibility of future official Tiger tournaments, Finchem said this: If Tiger Woods calls up in a couple of years, we will answer the phone.
The 31-year-old Woods has never been a megalomaniac. He has never grubbed for power. But, increasingly, he doesnt shrink from influence either. But, hey, the guy cant legally run for President until hes 35 anyway. Besides, he said, he has a lot on his plate at the moment.
According to Greg McLaughlin, the president of Woods' foundation and the interim tournament director of the AT&T National, Woods got one-on-one audiences Wednesday with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

From what insiders have told me, Tiger is THE most 2 faced controlling athlete in all of sports. Either you worship him or you're on "the list".
Kind of like Don Johnson in "Tin Cup", only nice when he knows there's a camera around. I played Golf with a guy who got to play with Tiger in an American Express outing, he played with them, but might have said 2 words to him and the other 3 guys given the "honor". They were all VERY disappointed, like meeting Santa Claus and being given a hunk of coal.
There's something about this that smells. Tiger is too smart to start alienating Country Club Republicans by announcing he's a Democrat. His dad was military. He once refused to meet with Clinton. This has all the earmarks of a made up story. He's a golfer...why on earth would he sully his God like image and try to run for office. It makes NO SENSE. A Dems daydream.
The part about him running for office is tongue in cheek. The part about him meeting one on one with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid is interesting.
I think Tiger played golf with Clinton, I'm not sure if he's played with Bush.
"People will nearly always disappoint you."
FWIW-
I have heard the same thing about a lot celebs in a situation such as this, except for Brooks Robinson.
That's really disappointing to read about Tiger - I hoped he was better.
Another billionaire for the little guy!
What's your carbon footprint Tiger?
I don't know but Patrick Ruffini of the Giuliani campaign is already talking about Tiger Woods as a future presidential candidate. People better start wondering what the hell is going on in the GOP.

-tiger sullied his reputation with me.
He did that years ago, when he was still playing with the Bulls, I think. He didn't go to the Whitehouse with his teamates because a Republican was pres...........
What has Tiger Woods done outside of the world of golf and endorsements? Arnold Palmer has built a cancer care wing for the local hospital, built a regional airport and a successful automobile dealership. And those are just the things I know about. When he speaks about politics, which he doesn't do all that often, he has a lot of credibility because of what else he has done. Of course, since he is a staunch Republican, there is little publicity or fanfare.
I'd be on that list. Almost every time the guy hits a bad tee/iron shot (which admittedly isn't too often) he shouts obscenities. ....invariably within earshot of young fans. Of course this behavior is mostly ignored -- criticizing Tiger for anything is almost unheard of.
The PGA tour is loaded with conservatives. Is Tiger one of them? Looks like we'll find out before long.
Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus are both staunch Republicans as well as an overwhelming percenteage of the Tour Players.
To the guy you met once who played with Tiger, that pro-am event probably seemed like a golf outing to him where he could take it easy, socialize and have a good time. For Tiger it was another tournament with prize money and his reputation as the greatest golfer in the world at stake. What your friend mistook for an unfriendly personality was someone who was focused on doing the very best he could do. As far as Tiger being a great conversationalist, he can't afford to talk as much as Phil Michelson and have the media turn on him. Tiger has the greatest image the game of golf has ever seen to protect and he is doing a fantastic job of doing just that.
I really don't care for him either--and I certainly don't like Tim Finchem--but in fairness, these sort of stunts come with pretty hefty fines (though I'm sure "chump change" to Tiger); it's just that the PGA Tour doesn't announce its fines like other sports. It prefers to keep its dirty laundry behind closed doors, and I can respect that.
Tiger is a jerk!!!

Spent a lot of time on his Yacht?
Oh wait, I meant this one:
Arnold Palmer has had a lot more time to do these things. Tiger is yet a young man.
The article says nothing about what was said in his conversation with Pelosi and Reid. They are after all the Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader.
