FNC Picks UP "The 1/2 Hour News Hour"
Rush Limbaugh ^ | 3/7/07 | Rush

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I meant to announce this at the top of the hour, and I had other things to do. It would have been a scoop then, but it's no longer a scoop. But I can tell you that the Fox News Channel has picked up 13 episodes of the 1/2 Hour News Hour. The two pilot episodes succeeded in their mission. Fox is going to pick those up, and they're going to be in production. They're going to start gearing up. These were pilots.

Now they're going to go out and get real production staff, writers and so forth (it takes four to six weeks of putting it all together), and then the 13 week run will commence. So 1/2 Hour News Hour has been picked up for 13 weeks by the Fox News Channel -- and 13 weeks is a goldmine in this business. That's where you get the chance to really strut your stuff, when get enough of a financial commitment there to gin up a great staff of people and so forth.

So they're off and running with that.

I watched both episodes. Although the first was definitely funny in some places, it was definitely rough at the edges and could have used more polish. It didn't look like Rush and Ann had quite gotten their timing and smoothness down right, sort of like actors at a dress rehearsal who still need to do more work before they go on stage before an audience.

The second episode, OTOH, was silky smooth and rib splittingly funny, so much so that it seemed to be over before it started. Rush and Ann were great, but the actual "news" segment was even better. I especially liked the anchorette who appeared to be constantly in moderate distress, as though she was a bit constipated, hoping to relieve herself, but thus far unable to do it.

I thought the shows were lame.

It hadn't occured to me before, but maybe that's part of the point.

I think Fox is offering the show as a counter to the that moronic Jon Stewart fake news show for unemployed dope smoking libtards living in their Mom's basements.

Lameness of is part of the genre.

I've gotten a few chuckles seeing Rush and Coulter in the openings. That was enough to justify putting it on my schedule.

I'm also glad someone is at least making an effort to provide a conservative alternative to Stewart.

I especially like the way Ann was parodying the liberal caricature of herself and conservatives in the opening segment. When Rush leaves her in charge to go on a golfing trip, she immediately phones the Pentagon and asks what countries we haven't invaded yet. "Ah, Canada," she nods approvingly after a few seconds. Priceless!

It looks like the "laugh track" attack is untrue. I thought the jokes were generally lame although there were some very funny moments. Hopefully, the humor will improve.

Those obvious laugh tracks are distracting and make the skits seem forced. I actually think the show would do better if they animated Rush Limbaugh's/Paul Shanklin's parodies. That would be funny. Just imagine an animation of John Kerry singing pariah.

I loved it (except for the canned laughter of course), and I think if the pilots were decent, the show will be great with more funding! In any case, this is sure to aggravate the Dems who still swear John Stewart is non-partisan.

I agree. I heard so many negative things about this show (mostly on this site!) that I was reluctant to watch. I thought both shows were extremely funny and that Rush and Ann were terrific in their skits.

I broke my own cardinal rule and did not consider the source. So, I did some checking and found that the most damning reviews came for the sour grapes camp. I look forward to seeing more episodes, and since it will follow Hannity's America (best news magazine on FNC) it will be pretty easy.

As for YouTube, look at the main page on any day and it is so easy to realize what they are all about. The most amazing thing to me is how many stupid, ugly losers are the "celebs" over there. Filthy-mouthed little weaklings, the lot of them.

“Um, I heard the first episode sucked. Was the second episode much better?”

I didn’t see the first one but saw the second show for a painful 10 minutes. I found it unfunny. It had a real loud annoying phony laugh track which I resented. I resented it because the laugh track was telling me that I was too stupid to know that I should be laughing.

By the way…This is what made M.A.S.H. great. It had no laugh track, and it was funny. And yes, there were also tragic moments in the episodes.

I didn't cath the very beginning of the
pikot they aired fist, but at the
beginning of the second pilot they
aired they panned the audience
as it was clapping, before bringing
the camera up to the stage center
shot. of the anchor desk.

There very clearly was a audience
clapping.

I'm not sure where you get the idea about the laugh track. They may run one for the Rush/Ann skit. However, the main segment of the show is taped before a live audience, as can be seen by watching it. That being true, I suspect the laughs on the Rush/Ann skit may come from the actual audience, which may be watching a tape of the skit. If there are any Fox News people reading this thread who know haw the pilots were produced, it would be nice for them to post a reply and settle the issue.

Read Rush's last sentence of the first paragraph. "These were pilots." While I found only a few funny parts in each episode, the real shows to come may just have better production value, i.e. writing, no laughtrack, etc. I hope.

It's fairly good but the woman reporter has a high, annoying voice. I like the guy though.

It had a real loud annoying phony laugh track

That was a live studio audience. It sounded "loud and annoying" because it was a live studio audience and not a homogenized phony laugh track.

At any rate I am pleased to see that Fox has picked this up. Ridicule of the left in a humor format is just the medicine this nation needs. Leftists despise laughed at. Watch the rage.

I didn’t realize they have an audience. In these cases, the audience is told when to laugh. Notice that they all laugh on cue and unnaturally loud.

They can also add the laugh track later…What ever.

But anyway, I found the whole thing annoying. Ann and Rush were okay. The few minutes I saw after Ann and Rush disappeared were boring. But, I’m glad other folks enjoyed it. I am the one who didn’t…I say off with everyone’s heads!!! : )
