What's Happening to Conservative Websites?

I have diligently watched the rise in size and influence of conservative websites, including Free Republic, over the last 7-8 years. I have been shocked and concerned over the drop in traffic at the most popular ones over the last year or so. There was good growth up until 2006 but since then there has been a steady downtrend that would crash any other market.
Anyone have any ideas as to what is happening? I'm out of explanations. The deficiencies in alexa.com are noted, but even if the numbers aren't accurate you're still comparing off numbers to off numbers so the decline is consistent.
TOPICS: Free Republic

That's quite true.
We're becoming as fragmented and childish as the liberals...
"You're a traitor because you support Rudy!"
"No, YOU'RE a traitor because you don't support Tancredo"
"Paleo Nutcase!"
"Baby-Killer"
That's pretty much the dialogue around here lately.

Me too.
People are tired of not being able to say a damn thing for fear of being banned.

That would be fun!
And would help the hit count, and possibly bring the Freepathon down to under 3 weeks again.

I do too, but lately I've even been a bit muted. I tend to go off on the social vs. fiscal/economic conservative threads though.

I would love to see Peacebaby come back. I still don't understand why he was ever sent away. If it's guilt by association, the one she was improperly associated with certainly deserves what it got.

Most of us are in a state of depression.LOL I can recall that there was a dearth of liberals seeking psychological help after Bush won the Presidential election.

I keep saying whatever I want. I try to be polite and non-combative. I don't reply to or try to argue witheveryone who disagrees with me.
But occasionally, someone will call me a name or tell me how dumb I am. When that happens, I give as I get or even worse. Once in a while I feel bad about it later, but often I feel quite good!

The Hunter fan club is about "anyone but mccain, guilliani and the mormon"How nice of you to try to marginalize those who are supporters of Duncan Hunter. :::rolls eyes:::

I agree, I also know of several bright, new posters who were banned because they objected to several of the old "Pure Conservatives" who were repeatedly violating the rules and nothing was being done about it.
The moment they voiced their objection of all the spam and nasty nature of the "chosen few", they were banned. While the "chosen few" kept their nasty and obscene rhetoric going without a thing being done about it.
Many long time FReepers also simply left this forum because they were tired of the hateful Anti-(You know who) rhetoric. As well as the constant negativity and lack of constructive and positive debate.
There may also be a down trend on Internet traffic, because people may be getting tired of sitting in front of their computers and letting the rest of the world pass them by.
What ever the cause, it is not a good idea to push people away. Any cause that welcomes all who are interested, can pass their core values on to the newcomers after they become interested. But they must gain new members for the cause to grow and become strong. But, by being exclusive, the cause becomes stagnant and eventually dies.

Exactly correct, we conservatives have been played for fools by our leadership. Betraied and sold out on issue after issue after issue. Way to go neocons you've killed the GOP.
