Nonsense. Ashcroft ran the Justice Department. Why did he let some clintonoid stooge appoint a Democrat prosecutor with an agenda?

Why didn't the President or a spokesman in the Justice Department point out that no crime had been committed, since Valerie Plame was not a covert agent and therefore the law in question did not apply?

Why did they let a Special Prosecutor be appointed, when congress outlawed Special Prosecutors during the clinton years?

It's not disloyal to the administration if you point out that they keep shooting themselves in the foot and had better stop doing it. As a private person, Bush can turn the other cheek and refuse to defend himself as often as he likes. As President of the United States, he has a duty to his country which includes standing up to injustice, falsehood, and evil. He and Ashcroft screwed up, and now it has come back to haunt them.

Fitzgerald was not an Independent Special Prosecutor. That office has been done away with.

But there were still "whistle blower protection" statutes on the book. And it was under one of these that Fitzgerald was appointed.

God knows how the whistle blowers is supposed to have been here. Joe Wilson?

He's more of a whistling blowhard.

Ashcroft at the time was being roundly criticized by the liberal mainstream media for the egregious act of being appointed by a Republican. He evidently withered under all the accusations and, as per the normal 'Pubbie' response expected within the liberal MSM, he appointed Fitz ... so he would appear fair. Ann Coulter has it absolutely right ...

Exactly.. Fitzy and Sandy Burgular and much more lie at the feet of the Justice Department(a.k.a. George Bush)..

On George Bush's desk is a sign that says "the buck stops somewhere ELSE"..
With George laughing as his shoulders heave up and down..

Congress did not outlaw Special Prosecutors. You are probably confusing Special Prosecutors witn Independent Counsels. The former are appointed by the executive branch (Attorney General), the latter were (when the Indedepndent Counsel Act was in effect) appointed by a panel of judges.
