Shortly before he was inaugurated for his second term, President Bush was asked why no one was held responsible for the mistakes of the first. "We had an accountability moment," he replied, "and that's called the 2004 elections."
Two years and a stinging midterm election later, Bush is having another accountability moment, but this one isn't working out as well. The conviction of former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby has coincided with a string of investigations into the mistreatment of injured soldiers and the purge of federal prosecutors, putting the operations of his administration into harsh relief....

The same folks who did nothing but excuse and condone Bill Clinton's
perjury are arguing that Libby is the devil incarnate.

I'm surprised the ComPost didn't give this assignment to the Libby jury spokesman. I'm sure he could have told it more eloquently.

I disagree, they are related. Bush is starting to mismanage the veteran's hospital problem just as he did the Libby/Wilson problem. He took neither seriously.
The appointment of Senator Robert Dole, whose first statement by the way talked of the administration being overwhelmed by injuries from the war, was another miscalculation.
Bush does not confront his detractors, he tries to get along. Donna will eat Dole alive.
Bush and Ashcroft allowed the Democrats to appoint a special prosecuter in the Libby case, selling Libby down the river.
Bush let the democrats fill the 9-11 commission with partisans while he worked to get along.
Bush let Sandy Berger off with Treason hoping we could just get along.
Bush had better wake up.

Yup, we will be fed this democrap this weekend by the democrat sycophancy whores of the alphabet networks. I can see it now: li'l Timmy Rustbucket all sad and mournful for being forced to tell the truth to bury this poor Republican sap: Hissy Matthews pondering why the federal investigation sacrificed this poor fella to the democrat Bush derangement folks; and George Steponallofus chiding democrats for lying about this verdict being about lying like a clinton not about the administration trying to discredit the lying, seditious Wilson. Yeah, I can see it now ... NOT

When Fitzgerald is held accountable for proceeding with an investigation where he himself admits he still doesn't know if the alleged crime is actually covered by a relevant law then there will be something that can be called accountability.

"Donna will eat Dole alive." You can be absolutely certain that she will load the panel on the "D" side with democrats who will be totally dedicated to digging for ways to attack the administration rather than ways to fix problems in the system that have been festering for decades.

"...the purge of federal prosecutors..." If I remember correctly, one of the first things Bill Clinton did when he took office was to fire ALL U.S. attorneys.

Glee, pure hate-filled glee that finally he and his media whores were going to get the pubbies but good. NAd Fitzfool could be relied upon to follow through as indicated by the prerstitutes' affirmation of Fitzy's non-partisan nature ... which he refuted finally as soon as he gave the closing argument in the Libby trial, citing the White House and Plame's safety when he had the judge exclude this material from the trial so that the truth of the fishing expedition could not be revealed to the jury.

Bush had better wake up.Your post is right on. Said many months ago that something wrong with Bush. He definitely has lost touch with those of us who totally believed in him and is beginning to look like a real "cave in". There is no way he can get along with liberals and trying to middle the road with them is a looser. And this lame excuse that down the middle of the road to get something we need passed in the House and Senate is foolish. We would probably be better off if nothing passed from Washington.
