Terri Schiavo's brain was dead. The coroner weighed it out at about half the size of a normal brain. If that had happened to this woman, she'd never have recovered, either.

Sorry...but we disagree and there are and were professional opinions on both side of the matter. IMHO, they should have let her parents, who loved her, care for her. That was the hummane thing...but I didn't get a vote.
Her brain was not "dead" --- it was severely damaged. If she were "brain dead", as the reporters inaccurately called it, she would have not been able to breathe or have a heart beat w/o machines. There is a difference between being "brain dead" -- in which it literally is a matter of machines keeping you alive and a "persistent vegetative state."
It was not about recovery for her parents, it was about undying love and an indefatigable sense of duty.
It was the husband and the bean counters who were in charge of the scales weighing tradition against convenience to bring about a new definition of convention.
Wonder what this woman's brain would have weighed if she had been (mercifully) starved and dehydrated to death? (And no, people don't recover from being starved and dehydrated to death.)
Brains are usually dead after a person is killed.
That is usually the case when you are killed slowly for thirteen days of starvation and dehydration. Take a look at her while she was recovering, and before Mikey did further work on her. This was a couple years after the incident. Her many broken bones from the "mysterious incident" had already pretty much mended.

Next, you need to understand that diagnoses by anonymous keyboard junkies with no sources don't carry any weight around here. All of the doctors who examined Terri Schiavo and testified in court stated under oath that she was aware. Even the doctors who were paid by Michael out of the money he took from Terri's medical funds. The experts on both sides agree, she wasn't dead until after she was starved and dehydrated to death.
