Indonesia Insists on Forest Compensation ( Carbon Credits )
Tempo Interactive ^ | March 6, 2007

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The government will ask for compensation from around 20 countries which are the highest emission contributors to the environment.

The compensation will be taken from the world's adapted funds and forestry incentives.

“Indonesia has the potential of around US$3-5 billion per year from emission trading,” said State Minister for the Environment Rahmat Witoelar after attending a joint seminar entitled “Energy Crisis and Climate Change: Where Are We Heading?” in the auditorium of the National Development Planning Agency, Jakarta.

He explained that Indonesia is planning to be the host of the 13th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP to the UNFCCC) in Bali on December 3-14, 2007.

Therefore, the Indonesian government will calculate the contribution of oxygen from Indonesian forests.

Meanwhile, forest maintenance is not easy and requires large funds. “Forest maintenance requires money.”

Demagoguery offsets?

Idiocy offsets?

Panic-mongering offsets?

Self-righteousness offsets?

“Indonesia has the potential of around US$3-5 billion per year from emission trading,”

Do nothing, get paid - who can resist that?

I have a small forest and some cleared land; if I just let it all grow, how much will Gore & co. pay me?

Forests have been growing and sucking up carbon for millions of years just fine without our help.

I've got tickets for a trip to Miami next month. It occurs to me that I can cancel this trip and spend my vacation in my backyard reading. I'm thus able to offer an extremely valuable carbon credit for a round-trip flight from California to Miami for the very reasonable starting bid of $500. Look for it on eBay. If lovers of the environment don't come up with this amount, I'll make my trip.

I'm going to try a get "carbon credits" for my lawn. Maybe if I plant a few azaleas I can scam even more from some concerned, caring international organization.

Indonesia should shut down their 27 volcanoes; then we'll talk. Meanwhile, I claim, oh, say a measly $100 grand from them for putting more noxious gases into the air than the U.S.

Proof of what I've been saying all along...Kyoto is just a wealth redistribution scam. Indonesia wants a cut of the action.

Six months ago I planted a tree in my yard (well actually I threw an apple core out there). I'm still waiting for that offset check from Tipper's husband.

And here I thought I was contributing to Indonesia's economy by buying those Nike golf shirts.

I want "carbon credits" for not working, walking to the corner store instead of driving, and not vacationing too far away. Who do I talk to? LOL

Therefore, the Indonesian government will calculate the contribution of oxygen from Indonesian forests.

Can we also calculate the birth rates from various countries so that oxygen consumers can pay based on number of breathers?
