Reid to Bush: No Pardon for Libby
ABC News ^ | March 6, 2007 | Paul Fidalgo

Posted on 03/06/2007 10:01:12 AM PST by West Coast Conservative

Moments after the guilty verdict handed to I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was made public Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., called on President Bush to promise not to let Libby off the hook with a presidential pardon.

"I welcome the jury's verdict. It's about time someone in the Bush Administration has been held accountable for the campaign to manipulate intelligence and discredit war critics," said Reid in a press statement. "Lewis Libby has been convicted of perjury, but his trial revealed deeper truths about Vice President Cheney’s role in this sordid affair. Now President Bush must pledge not to pardon Libby for his criminal conduct."

Libby, a former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted on 4 of 5 counts of obstruction of justice, perjury and lying to the FBI in the investigation into the leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity.

Maybe because he hasn't committed a crime.

I think Sandy Berger should be recharged.

The Sand Burglar still has a date with the Justice Department lie detector.

'clinton pardoned drug dealers, extortionists, embezzlers - criminals all. you yourself reid are a con man with a hypocritical history and have compromised the faith this nation has placed in you. not only do i not promise to never pardon libby, i now proudly and resolutely pardon this man libby, who has been politically persecuted for a sham, while the crimes committed by clinton, berger, wilson and jefferson go unpunished.'

say something bush will never say because he pees sitting down

"Bush won't issue a pardon, and Reid knows it. But now it will look like no pardon because Reid said so. Clever."

Very perceptive. The DemonRATs are playing a political chess game and every move they make is with cunning calculation. We would love to see our side take a few bishops, but I think that President Bush wants as few boats rocked as possible. I fear there are serious things looming in the international scene to be distracted with the Rats and their political gamesmanship. Libby will be pardoned just before Bush leaves office.

one of my girlfriends ran for the state Senate and since she wasn't corrupt and a decent human being,

You should know by now that if she had gotten the GOP nomination that your decent girlfriend would be made to look every bit as crooked as any candidate you currently think of as "corrupt" once she started campaigning against a Democrat. People out there just like yourself would be insisting the GOP should have run a decent person instead of that corrupt and wicked &^%$#.

Yep, rumors willl fly that she sleeps with you and a dozen other guys out of wedlock, that she had an abortion, that she called someone a politically incorrect name or told an off color joke, that she backstabbed her coworkers, that she drinks too much, that she smoked pot in college, that she cheated on an entrance exam, that she padded her resume, etc. The press will find friends she didn't know she had to spill the dirt on her. They will put incriminating words in the mouths of her family members, they will selectively snip her words and regurgitate them out of context to mean exactly the opposite of what she said.

This is why the average American believes everyone in politics is corrupt. They long for people who aren't, but when people come along who really aren't crooks, nobody will believe it. Cynicism and conspiracy theories see to that.

That's the way it is. No matter who runs, even if it was Jesus Christ himself, the press and their competitors will paint them as corrupt and info will be created and fed to both right and left media and blog outlets until you don't know for sure who to trust. And too many people will accept and believe everything bad they hear about her.

Then the person who is really scum will get elected because all the principled voters will stay home, leaving his base with control of the ballot box.

I would have stood up and cheered if President Bush had announced Scooter Libby's immediate pardon on the spot.

W has no cajones. He will not pardon Libby (he already should have). He has single-handedly done more to ruin the Conservative movement than any Leftie could have done.

W should definitely pardon Libby, but I hope he waits about 12 months. Let Libby start the appeals process. The trial was a political act, so should the pardon be.

About next February/March, after all the primaries, it's likely that Hillary will have the Dem nomination locked up. So, THEN W should issue the pardon to Libby, the Dems/left/blogosphere will go nuts, and THEN we can remind the American people about Slick's selling pardons the last days of his term, including criminals who were "clients" of Hillary's brothers, the Rodham boys..

It will open up all the Clinton scandal/garbage again, happily for us. It's going to boomerang on them..BIG TIME

The GOP didn't want to run her because she didn't have money, and they were so scared she'd win in the primary that they desperately threw all their money behind a carpetbagger who beat her in the primary by less than 50 votes.

She was sunk by the Republican Party, not the press. So guess what is happening now? She made such a good showing for someone who was an unknown--that the Democrats are asking her to be their candidate for the next election. Her name is now known and they didn't risk a penny on her.

So now you see how the Dems have found another way to get the candidates that used to be ours--because the short-sighted local Republican leadership won't run them....and in this last election, those candidates won on the Dem ticket as blue dogs.

The Republican Party has to face reality and get themselves some good candidates or the Dems will get them all.

That's a winning strategy, hope someone's listening.
