Some of us here would drool over the chance to have such a law.

The French, and Europe in general, have much to learn from the USA about freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

Unfortunately, the Rats in this country are trying to follow "enlightened" Europe on such matters.

--Like quills upon the fretful porpentine--

A porcupine covered with turpentine? That would explain the 'fretful' part ;^)

Are you referring to the liberal varmints who wander the halls of FR posting their communist drivel? If so, you're probably right.

YouTube reverts to JournalistTube?

Who defines "violent"?

This is insane.

>>or operators of Web sites publishing the images, one French civil liberties group warned on Tuesday.<<

They are literally trying to control the press, pure and simple.

This is very much reminiscent of the convoluted laws the fictional US government in Atlas Shrugged was making. It was laughable in the book becuase of the implausability of such things in real life.

I guess I should not have laughed.

LOL - the democrats? Which party pushed through CFR and which party did the president belong to who signed it into law? Which party appointed 7 of the 9 justices of the supreme court that ruled that the law was constitutional?

The sad truth of the matter is that all a politician here would have to say to get a law like the French one passed is that it is necessary to fight child porn or drug use. Republicans would fall all over themselves to vote it into law.

More likely the "family friendly" authoritarian nanny staters with FR.

You nailed it! I'm not surprised in the least to see this coming out of France or any EU country, frankly. What I'm waiting for is to see how soon this comes to our shores and under what "War on this or that" will it be marketed to the public?

I agree.

Also, this is a country that couldn't make modest roll backs to nanny state benefits without the 20-somethings rioting in the streets.

Unless the French Gov't decides to get medieval on people, this law's not going to last long.

The law could lead to the imprisonment of eyewitnesses who film acts of police violence, or operators of Web sites publishing the images, one French civil liberties group warned on Tuesday.

I had to read this twice to be sure I wasn't mis-reading it and am still too stunned to comment further except to say this is really becoming a more and more upside down world every day and our relatives didn't risk their lives fighting Hitler for this kind of world.

Will the liberals on our Supreme Court start citing this French law???

This is right up Breyer's alley. OConnor would have loved it too but she's history, thankfully.

The French Constitutional Council has approved a law that criminalizes the filming or broadcasting of acts of violence by people other than professional journalists.

So, if you're a professional journalist then folks can film you committing a violent act?
