Giuliani Estranged From His Children

Some Say Personal Problems May Hurt Prospects

CBS News

NEW YORK (March 5) -- It doesn't look like Rudy Giuliani's two children will have a role in his presidential campaign. According to press reports, the GOP frontrunner's third marriage has alienated his son, Andrew, 21, and daughter, Caroline, 18, from their father.

Giuliani's 21-year-old son, Andrew, told the New York Times that he would be too busy working on his golf game to participate in his father's presidential campaign.

"There's obviously a little problem that exists between me and his wife," the younger Giuliani told the newspaper. "And we're trying to figure that out. But as of right now it's not working as well as we would like."

Giuliani's marriage to his third wife, Judith Nathan, followed his divorce from Donna Hanover, the mother of Andrew and Caroline.

In 2000, Giuliani announced during a live TV interview that he planned to divorce Hanover. She responded by publicly accusing Giuliani of adultery.

Caroline Giuliani has not spoken publicly, but the Times and New York's tabloid newspapers reported that she was also alienated from her father as a result of his marriage to Nathan.

The New York Daily News reported that Giuliani rarely spends time with his children and that he had failed to attend many important events in their lives, including Andrew's golf tournaments and Caroline's school plays.

Andrew Giuliani is a sophomore at Duke and a member of the school's golf team. Caroline attends a private Catholic school in Manhattan. She will attend Harvard University in the fall. Giuliani has had no comment on his relationship with his children.

Giuliani holds a huge lead in the polls over GOP presidential rival John McCain, but some political analysts believe the former New York Mayor's estrangement from his children and other personal problems is bound to inflict political damage.

Political analyst Charles Cook told Newsday that the latest twist would hurt Giuliani with the GOP's conservative voters.

"This is just going to be one of a thousand cuts," Cook told the newspaper. "This will just sort of fit into a whole constellation of issues that work against someone winning a conservative party's nomination, a party that thinks of itself as a pro-family party. This just makes it really hard."

It doesn't sound as if the kids have accepted their stepmother.

Donna Hanover, a Lefty moonbat, is those kids' mother. This tramp Judy is just Rudy's current wife, not their stepmother.

Nuclear attacks on our cities will destroy families quicker than abortion or divorce.

Some of you should stop hiding under the bed, posting from your laptops.

Yeah, well, Ronald Reagan wasn't the Father of the Year according to his two youngest kids, either. This is a real NON-story, as far as I'm concerned. Let's concentrate on the ISSUES, not personal silliness.

Well, let's see. Rudy got his first marriage annulled because she was supposedly his second cousin. His longtime buddy, a child-molesting priest, arranged that one. Then he took up with Hanover and married her and had kids. He started living his own life separately from her and the family, leaving her back at Gracie Mansion. Around this time, Hanover was in the cast of The Vagina Monologues. He took up with a string of floozies, most in city government, among them this Judith woman. So he takes her back to the mansion and is sleeping with her in the family's residence, prompting her to get a court order. Then he leaves her without telling her or the kids and pops up at a press conference to spring the surprise of a divorce on Donna and the kids. Then he marries the tramp.

You can decide for yourself if Mrs. Giuliani #2 was also a tramp like Mrs. Giuliani #3 is. But Number Two had no rumors of infidelity around her and the press was watching.

I get so tired of this.

Marital relationships are complex. Divorces are often complex. The truth is, all you know about this family is what you've read in the newspaper or seen on TV (reporters aren't known for 100% accuracy), and you've swallowed every word hook, line, and sinker. You don't know everything that went down, and you never will.

Don't let that stop you from calling people you don't know tramps, though.

It beats the heck out of me how you can talk about glorifying God and support Rudy in the same breath.

I'm not too big on delving into candidates' family lives.

I'm much more bothered by the fact that another 4000 American children were brutally killed again today by Giuliani's bosom buddies at Planned Parenthood and NARAL.

The women who married him (good grief, that should be "woman" not "women") could not trust him. His children do not trust him. Yet the GOP is supposed to trust this man to be President of the United States. Just remember, Giuliani's Chief of Police used city funds to keep his mistresses. This man is crap. And any so-called Republican who supports him is utterly wrong.

You really think so?

Good grief, you are obviously a Rudy fan. If it makes you feel better I'd like to know more about Ann Romney, Cindy McCain and Lynne Hunter. We don't elect the wife, but I still think it's a subject that deserves some consideration because the things the wife says and does will be in the public eye.

She announced that she was going to take a part in the cast, but then she dropped out of it. I think she did it just to try to embarrass Rudy. He had done enough to embarrass her by having an affair with a staff member, Christyne Lategano before moving on to have another very public affair with Judith Nathan, all why he was holding office as the mayor of New York.

"claimed illness

Nice. You have so much in common with the hated MSM."

Not really. He continued on as the leader of New York City. If he was so concerned that his cancer would limit his abilities, he probably should have resigned as Mayor so he could take care of his health problems.

I'd say Rudy has a history of picking "bad" women...

So he is a bad judge of character? Like picking Bernie Kerick?

You can spin it away from Rudy all you like but each man is responsible for his life, his decisions, his actions and leaders made things work.

Actually I was against Rudy long before I learned that he is estranged from his kids.
He lost me with all his liberalness.
I was not surprised, thats just the type of guy he is.

Fits the mold of a domineering, bully, and control freak which is how Rudy comes off to me.

LOL.
I can relate. My siblings don't let their children call our father's current wife grandma. And in no do I consider her to be my stepmother.

Rudys personal life is really biting him in the ass.

Why would the fact that he is a two-timing adulterous cradle-robbing cross-dressing abortion proponent hurt his chances of being the standard bearer for the Republican party?

It's the economy, stupid.

The Bible says divorce causes confusion.

In this case, the new wife is not the step-mother of them, as she did not raise them.

She is the wife of the father. These children, now young adults, are required to honor their parents - and that means both of them, and that means treating this woman, and their in-laws, respectfully. Conversely, the new wife is to respect the children's relationship to their mother.

These are not easy to do, and I would hope that the individuals involved get it through their selfish little heads that they have an obligation concerning this.

Giuliani had an obligation towards his ex-wife. He took a vow. He broke that vow and destroyed the lives of his children and his wife in the process. Perhaps if Giuliani had gotten it through his selfish little head that he shouldn't be cheating on his wife and throwing her to the wolves he wouldn't be having this electoral crisis.

The children are not being selfish. They are being protective of their mother. Rudy was the selfish one. Now he's paying the price.

Crocodile tears.

Not really. You marry a woman, you're faithful to her and the children, just as you vowed. Then you won't have a divorce.

Most voters have reservations about someone who has had such bad behavior or judgment that they have married three times. It indicates a person who operates in bad faith habitually or is an extremely bad judge of character in a spouse.
