Edwards: Jesus Would Be 'Appalled' at U.S.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards says Jesus would be appalled at how the United States has ignored the plight of the suffering, and that he believes children should have private time to pray at school.

Edwards, in an interview with the Web site Beliefnet.com, said Jesus would be most upset with the selfishness of Americans and the country's willingness to go to war "when it's not necessary."

"I think that Jesus would be disappointed in our ignoring the plight of those around us who are suffering and our focus on our own selfish short-term needs," Edwards told the site. "I think he would be appalled, actually."

Edwards also said he was against teacher-led prayers in public schools, but he added that "allowing time for children to pray for themselves, to themselves, I think is not only OK, I think it's a good thing."

In the interview, the former North Carolina senator discussed how he lost touch with his day-to-day faith during college, but that it "came roaring back" after the death of his 16-year-old son, Wade, in 1996.

Please Lord, let me have a house like John Edwards.

I'd be happy with his barn.

Christians will think he's pandering to them...

Not really. Most of us can see he's just a hypocrite, a limosine liberal bashing conservatives, and pandering to those who hate us.

It's not what I think Jesus said that bothers me it's what I know he said that keeps me up at night.

There is a fundamental error in the syntax, as well.

Why does he say "would be". That implies either Jesus is no longer alive to be able to see such things as modern America. Or He has no cability to see it, even though alive.

Both of these, based on his supposition, would seem to be born out of a Freudian slip.

Does Mr. Edwards really believe in the Risen Jesus Christ, fully alive, and fully God, and fully cognizant of EVERYTHING, both past, present and to come??

I never seen his house before. Huh. I would not have imagined this. Is all that bald area a golf course that's brown in the winter? Interesting that sort of impromptu goofy walkway between the mansion and the barn. Wonder what's in the barn. He may collect autos.

As if Jesus was not present and witnessing it when scores of young Americans--in uniform and otherwise, at risk of life or limb, helicoptered in and out of Sumatra, Indonesia, landing, picking up refugees and tsunami victims, returning again and again, and leaving boxes of most welcomed food/rations behind, marked "From the People of the United States of America". Yeah, John Edwards, Jesus would REALLY be disappointed with that.... /sarc

Hey John Boy,

What would Jesus say about Roe vs. Wade?

Edwards could feed the hungry by selling his multi million dollar mega mansion and using those funds. He could rent a three bedroom bungalo in the poor part of town to show which of the two Americas he lives in.

I just don't see Edwards giving up his career and money to follow Jesus

Jesus Counsels the Rich Young RulerMark 10:17-22

17 Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”
18 So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.
19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’”
20 And he answered and said to Him, “Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.”
21 Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.”
22 But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

John Edwards is using the Jesus image to make the evangelic Christians feel guilty about their support of the Iraq War. Of course, the DemonRATs will do anything to turn military spending into big government socialism. Such big government is something that caused Jesus to turn tables over in the Temple. Those sacrificial lambs you bought at those tables had built into the price a steep tax that went to the Roman government. The whole idea of sacrifice had turned into a money making scheme by Roman colonialism. In fact, the opposition to Christianity was because it threatened to upset that money making scheme because the sacrifice of Jesus ended the need for sacrificial lambs.

We would not be the greatest nation on earth if we did not sacrifice for those in the world that need our help. This sacrifice is something that the socialist countries do very little because they want the money for their own political power. The DemonRATs are no different from their socialist cohorts around the world. And, when Christian churches want to take over some of the functions of big government, the howl of the socialists crying "separation of church and state," goes to the roof.

I don't think that Edwards is a faggot. I think he is a "GIRLYMAN" who hides behind his wife on ocassion, and behind his stupidity the rest of the time.

The US is the most generous nation on the earth - Democratic politicians aren't. Just check Gore, Kerry, Kennedy, etc. their records on giving to Katrina relief, the Tsunami relief, anything for Iraq or Afghanistan, or to Israel, or Rwanda, or the Darfur people.

Edwards is a class action lawsuit parasite, leech, bloodsucker, and intellectual wasteland.

Years ago his campaign sent me a fundraising letter that had to have been written by Karl Marx or Lenin. Edwards is in the "closet", not as a faggot, queer, gay, or happy person, but as a "closet Marxist."

I don't care about someone's sexual orientation. However, if Edwards decided to keep his two anti-Catholic staffers inspite of their writings, then why can't Ann Coulter say something that is not politically correct, or even polite, and then be crucified for it.

I'll call Edwards a "pantywaist", "a waste", a "closet marxist", a "mental midget" (no slight intended to "little people"), a "moron" (that should upset a lot of Democrats), a "fool", and a "disgrace" to American politics, but I really do "respect" the guy - NOT!!

I made the same mistake. It isn't a barn.

It has guest quarters, office space, a large indoor pool, an auditorium with a couple of stages, etc.

Would Jesus would be appalled at the US? Maybe.

A country which he blessed more than any other in the history of the world with wealth, technology, and stable governance has in course of time...

- expelled him from public discourse
- begun the sacrifice of its children to Moloch
- legalized, and institutionalized the sins of Sodom.
- funded all of the above
- become slave to the lender by becoming a borrower

...and, at least some percentage of those who claim his name appear to be willing to promote a leader who not only believes in such policies, but will promote them.

Jesus might well be appalled.
