Will Ann Coulter never learn?
There are some things you just can't say, not even in jest. And at the top of that list right now is anything derogatory about the "gay" lifestyle or, worse yet, anything that is considered a slur against homosexuals, a protected class of people with special rights which entitle them to live free from all offense.
Ann surely should have known this. After all, hasn't she seen any of the countless films or TV shows produced by Hollywood in recent years which promote homosexuality as a perfectly normal and acceptable alternative lifestyle? Indeed, the homosexuals in virtually every one of these films and TV shows are smarter, funnier, hipper and more humane than the heterosexual characters.
Hasn't she seen or read any of the endless media stories promoting homosexuality in the same glowing manner, with never a critical word to be uttered? Doesn't she know that our schools are teaching children that homosexuality is a completely legitimate practice, and one we must all embrace and support as such whether we engage in it or not?
Yet despite all of this, Ann had the unmitigated gall to get up before an overflow crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday, while the cameras were still rolling, and say this: "I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,' so I so kind of an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards."

I think you've neglected the POV.
Seems to me that Edwards meets that definition pretty well. What we used to call a "pretty boy".
Lost in all of this is whether or not Edwards IS a homosexual. Is he, or isn't he? If he was a conservative that is what the press would be focusing on. They only eat their own when they don't tow the (Dem) party line.
Edwards should announce that he is "a gay American" for the bump in the polls (no pun intended).
Yeah...I've heard it and read it. I'm still not sure what the funny part is. Is she implying he's gay? What's funny about that?
"So who is actually the sacred, persecuted cow of the Left these days? Black people? Homosexuals? Muslims? Illegal Immigrants from Mexico and other Latin American countries?"
Whomever can most effectively be exploited at that moment. Get with the program!
"What's wrong with the faggot word?"
"It isn't on the approved list. Unless you are one. Kind of like the "N" word for blacks."
If only the Dems would understand that being black is not a sin, but being a faggot is.
Well said.
It seems to offend some of the richest and most powerful people in Hollywood and New York City.
Edwards a faggot, don't know - but he sure spends a lot of time combing his hair. That's an indication of an ambulance chasing lawyer isn't it?
Let's see. Homosexuality is bad. 'Faggot' is a derogatory term implying one is homosexual. For any derogatory term, the behaviour the term represents (homosexuality in this case) is considered highly undesireable (that's why it's derogatory). Some claim this term should be acceptable if used in public. However, if the term became acceptable generally, this would mean the behaviour would have become acceptable, which would mean homosexuality would be considered good. Hmm.
You're definition of 'free speech' seem to be the same as that of the Dixie Chicks; freedom from criticism.
Faggots world wide got upset over the association to Edwards. They may have a point.
So you are saying he is a faggot? But not gay?
People who engage in homosexual acts are trying to establish homosexual behavoir as a basis for personal and community identity and, thus, their call for individual and collective rights forces society to condone a behavior that is not in the interest of society to condone.
We must confront the issue at the core. We all enjoy the same HUMAN rights endowed us by the Creator as a result of our shared humanity and NOT relative to a particular behavior.
Homosexual behavior must be assessed as is all behavior...based upon moral, spiritual precepts, historical experience and the real appraisal of the consequences of homosexual behavior and its impact on society.
Interestin', but I'm thinkin' Ann wasn not referring to rump rogering; she was declining to use the word 'faggot' to characterize JE as a self-indulgent, preening, effete, Breck Girl, manicured, silky pony boy who embarrassed us in his slavish, subservient role as J F'n K's running mate......
. ......the pictures of the guy being petted and smooched like a lap dog give me the heaves.
She shouldn't take one step back, just keep going forward with her incisive pronouncements.
Absolutely. I have noticed the dreadful fall out rate of those who then back track. They keep re wording what they said. They keep apologizing. They humble themselves and meet with hard eyed representatives of the "offended" group. What pray is their reward?
The sharks circle in a feeding frenzy.
Only when the person appears to have been utterly humiliated and destroyed, do the sharks back off. If ever Ann backed off, she is dead. This she ain't gonna do. She is probably independently wealthy.
Says I, Ann, give 'em the old one two. Anyone that saw the old Abbott and Costello classics, will know what I mean. LOL
It is about as bad as nigger.
Using the word makes me doubt her intelligence.
You can use it at home, but to go in front of an audience like that was crazy.
Maybe it's regional, but I've always understood 'faggot' (or 'fag') to mean the same as 'queer' (usually preceded by f####n), which was slang for homosexual. (It used to mean just 'strange' or 'odd'.) Maybe you were more 'enlightened' where you grew up.
