Diebold Inc. saw great potential in the modernization of elections equipment. Now, analysts say, executives may be angling for ways to dump its e-voting subsidiary that's widely seen as tarnishing the company's reputation.
Though Diebold Election Systems - the company's smallest business segment - has shown growth and profit, it's faced persistent criticism over the reliability and security of its touch-screen voting machines. About 150,000 of its touch-screen or optical scan systems were used in 34 states in last November's election.
The criticism is particularly jarring for a nearly 150-year-old company whose primary focus has long been safes and automated teller machines.
"This is a company that has built relationships with banks every day of every year. It pains them greatly to see their brand tarnished by a marginal operating unit," said Gil Luria, an investment analyst who monitors Diebold for Wedbush Morgan Securities Inc....

Why get out now? After the November election results, I didn't read ONE complaint from the Democrats that you guys were in the Republicans' control. Now the dems LOVE you.
I hope they sell it to Halliburton.
Therefore--TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN! Kickbacks come due someday--MSM and dims know the sheeples memories are only for 90 days...
Buh bye Diebold. Touch screen voting is evil, and not because of any potential hacking.
Touch screen machines are so expensive that very few will be purchased by each precinct, causing massive voting lines on high turnout (Presidental Election) years.
Much better are optically scanned ballots, where the voter marks a paper ballot with a pen. One optical scanner can serve a precinct with 2, 5, or 50 voting stations. Each station is simply a table with a lamp. That scales up for heavy turnout years, scales down for low turnout elections (school millage, off year primaries, etc.)
Optically scanned ballots can be tabulated just as quickly as touch screen voting can, plus you have the added bonus of automatically having a paper trail for manual recounts if desired.
Touch screens are evil!
So long as the right side wins.
Because Diebold had a great reputation up until they bought an electronic voting company and started selling those flawed products.
Hehehe. Only flawed if the dimocRATS lose. They are great machines when the dimocRATS win.
I think Halliburton should produce election voting machines, myself........
Touch voting is abominable. Optical scan is good. Diebold would be smart to get out of voting machines. Their brand has become synonymous with "voting irregularities."
lol. Beat me to it.
