Near-Fatal Abortion Reminds Us What's at Stake
In what can only be called an abortion horror story, a New Jersey woman is recovering in the hospital from a severely botched procedure that could have cost her life. Twenty-year-old Rasheedah Dinkins spent the last month in a coma after she visited the Metropolitan Medical Associates (MMA) in Englewood for an abortion that made her dangerously ill.
En route to the hospital, medics say Rasheedah died, but they were able to resuscitate her in time for doctors to give her blood transfusions and surgically remove her uterus.
Despite the MMA's claim that they have the "finest staff in New Jersey," Rasheedah is still in the hospital where she has suffered a stroke and other complications, including the collapse of both lungs. Not surprisingly, she now says she regrets her decision to have an abortion.
After an investigation by state health officials, MMA has been temporarily closed because the facility "had poor infection control" and used unsterilized equipment that posed an "immediate and serious risk of harm to patients." These are serious charges for a clinic endorsed by the National Abortion Federation (NAF), an organization that claims its mission is to "ensure safe, legal, and accessible abortion care to promote health and justice for women." On the contrary, NAF continues to put women at risk by retaining the MMA on its list of trusted providers despite its blatant violations of "member protocol" in this near-fatal incident.
Considering that MMA is one of the biggest abortion facilities in the nation, we can only shake our heads at the lack of regulation for clinics like this one that perform over 10,000 abortions a year. No matter what your views on abortion, we would all agree that there is no excuse for endangering women's lives over something as basic as clean medical instruments.
If we don't tolerate filth in fast-food restaurants or veterinary clinics, how much more outraged should we be at this lethal negligence? When FRC contacted the clinic, an employee said they may resume operations as soon as next Thursday. We call on the conscience of state officials to ensure that the clinic never reopens and instead finds its license revoked.

NEWARK, N.J. - A Newark woman who said she spent a month in a coma after undergoing an abortion at a Bergen County clinic sued the facility and several doctors there yesterday.
The lawsuit was filed in Superior Court in Essex County against Metropolitan Medical Associates, an Englewood clinic that performs thousands of abortions a year. The clinic was ordered closed last Friday by state health officials until it corrects the "immediate and serious" risks.
The closure is only the second time in the last five years that state health regulators have shut down one of New Jersey's more than 600 ambulatory-care facilities on allegations of deficient care.
Rasheedah Dinkins, who is still recovering in a hospital, said she regrets having ended her pregnancy. "I think it's horrible what I had to go through," she said from her hospital bed. In retrospect, she added, "I probably wouldn't have made this choice."
Dinkins said she was told by her mother and personnel at the hospital that she'd actually died in the ambulance on the way there, and was revived en route. She said she regained the ability to speak only on Tuesday.
"We expect to get to the bottom of why this incredibly horrible result could have happened from such a simple procedure," said her attorney, Adam Slater.
The shutdown order cites problems involving infection control, instruments and equipment used for sterilization. A woman who answered the telephone at the clinic said the facility remained closed, but had no other immediate comment yesterday.
The clinic's Web site says its physicians have a complication rate of less than 1 per 1,000 procedures, calling its staff "the finest in the state of New Jersey."
Gloria Mozas of Cliffside Park is also suing the clinic, contending that doctors there wrongly diagnosed her tubal pregnancy in 2003 and told her she had miscarried when, in fact, she was carrying two live fetuses. She said she was heartened that the state had shut the clinic. "I've been waiting for those doors to be locked for 31/2 years," she said.
Marie Tasy, executive director of New Jersey Right To Life, called on other women who have had poor experiences at the clinic to come forward.
Dinkins, 20, said she felt ill after undergoing the abortion, and had to be rushed to a hospital by ambulance after she passed out at home, her family said.
At the hospital, she received blood transfusions and her uterus was removed, Slater said. The attorney also said Dinkins suffered a stroke due to blood loss, and one of her lungs collapsed.
I wonder if it breaks Rudy's heart.
I could have sworn ALL abortions are fatal.

Oh, it was near fatal for the "mother". That's rich.

If what I just wrote made you sad or angry,
it was probably just a joke.
For those who do not remember legalized abortions were supposed to remove the danger to women who were otherwise healthy until they got pregnant.
Best regards,
""I think it's horrible what I had to go through," she said from her hospital bed."
Seems to me that she got what she deserved. Too bad they don't all end up this way...
-abortions ARE always fatal........
"Near Fatal Abortion" - You mean the baby lived?
The scary part is that mainstream Democrat elected officials like Barbara Boxer and Nacny Pelosi, not just the moonbats, sound like this.
I thought every abortion was fatal.
And her baby, body, now in the garbage can and soul in heaven, agreed that it had been a tough day for both mother and baby. The newly Sainted baby said she will pray for her mother and feels good that since they removed her uterus, she won't be able to do this again.
Abortions are 100% fatal to at least one party. Nothing new here.
Hell must of froze over, Adam Slater, an ambulance chaser I can finally support.
Exactly - she went there to murder her baby and complains that she didn't get proper treatment. She feels it should involve no risk for her and no chance for her baby. Snakes care more for their offspring than she does.
"...she said from her hospital bed". And her baby is somewhere in an alley in a dumpster. Nice try for sympathy, dear.
unsterilized equipment
Most of the time they are fatal but there have been a few survivors such as Gianna Jessen, Jim Kelly, Sarah Smith, Sarah Brown, Ana Rosa Rodriguez, Baby Claire, and Baby Grace.
Gianna's biological mom attempted to abort in the 7th month of pregnancy. Gianna was born with cerebral palsy as a result of 18 hours in saline solution. She has an amazing story and uses the gifts and talents God gave her to the fullest!

Some babies were born without limbs or were born blind because of the different abortion procedures. This article really opened my eyes.

Like other posters said, all abortions are fatal to one person involved in them.
The NAF doesn't care if abortions are safe, of course that's a plus that they can use for propaganda, they only care about making sure they are done correctly. Correctly is of course meaning at the end there is a dead baby.
On a side note, I wonder if this woman would regret her abortion if there weren't physical complications affecting her. In other words, if all had gone smoothly, would she regret it at all?
So there was only one dead from this botched hit?
