I only see filing data here, no mention of Gore.

Can you interpret this so it makes sense to laymen like me? :)

Gore's 'Carbon Offsets' Paid to Firm He Owns(Well now, isn't that special.)

Al Gore defends his extraordinary personal energy usage by telling critics he maintains a "carbon neutral" lifestyle by buying "carbon offsets," but the company that receives his payments turns out to be partly owned and chaired by the former vice president himself.

Gore has built a "green money-making machine capable of eventually generating billions of dollars for investors, including himself, but he set it up so that the average Joe can't afford to play on Gore's terms," writes blogger Dan Riehl.

Gore has described the lifestyle he and his wife Tipper live as "carbon neutral," meaning he tries to offset any energy usage, including plane flights and car trips, by "purchasing verifiable reductions in CO2 elsewhere."

But it turns out he pays for his extra-large carbon footprint through Generation Investment Management, a London-based company with offices in Washington, D.C., for which he serves as chairman. The company was established to take financial advantage of new technologies and solutions related to combating "global warming," reports blogger Bill Hobbs.

I know Gore is chairman of GIM. I'm asking how you know he buys STOCKS instead of outright purchases of the "product" of carbon offsets supposedly sold by his bullcrap company.

What a scam!

Yep. "Feel guilty? Then pay me some money, and you won't have to feel that way any more!" All the money spent on carbon offsets is money not going to Rat candidates, that's the only good I see here.

Look at the table in form 13F:

http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?company=generation+investment+management&CIK=&filenum=&State=&SIC=&owner=include&action=getcompany

That's $206,361,000 worth of stock listed in the table.

Thats almost a quarter of a billion dollars worth of stock.

Them there aren't tree purchases.

One thing I don't get is why people thought this is where he gets his carbon "credits" - I've looked at the company -they are an investment firm that is supposed to make a profit like any other investment firm but they claim to invest in environmentally friendly companies - I don't see any indication they sell carbon credits.

SYSCO CORP

I wonder if this is Sysco Foods or the software maker? I'm guessing Foods.

Good company, but they might run more semi's around the country than any other company in the country. I would have no problems with their stock, but if you're going "Carbon Neutral" I think you could make a case against them.

Remember that the sort of investments made by GIM-me are the sort subsidized by tax dollars. Subsidized because of people like...Al Gore.

The principals in GIM-me are Al Gore and David Blood. Blood and Gore.

This is the Gore twist on the Billary scam....

The Clintons, in particular Hillary, have a prior history of highly questionable stock and commodities trading practices, of which "Cattle-gate" is the most famous. A lesser well known fact is that during the abortive health care reform, Hillary Clinton made a small profit by short-selling pharmaceutical stocks. That's insider trading, its illegal, and its the very activity the blind trust (still incomplete at the time) was intended to prevent.

The Gore Family are all into energy scams....the Clinton Family seems to be medical...

Gore said so!

Group questions level of energy use at Gore home

According to Kalee Krider, a spokeswoman for Gore:

Gore helped found Generation Investment Management, through which he and others pay for offsets. The firm invests the money in solar, wind and other projects that reduce energy consumption around the globe, she said.

Looks like WorldNetDaily may need to revisit this story. GIM appears to be a hedge fund that invests in "green" companies. Al Gore supposedly sends them money to invest, like a mutual fund. This mean Gore earns a return, and is free to withdraw his funds whenever he would like. He is not "buying carbon offsets" through GIM. He is allowing his money to be invested in companies that are doing things to supposedly reduce greenhouse emissions. It's still Gore's money, as it would be for any other investor.
