In Support of Ann Coulter
Monday, March 5, 2007 | Kristinn

Posted on 03/05/2007 12:51:58 AM PST by kristinn

It is with growing dismay and frustration that I am watching so many of my friends and acquaintances in the conservative community attack Ann Coulter for her comments pointing out that saying the word 'faggot' can get you sent to a rehabilitation clinic.

That she said it in the context of primping pretty boy Democrat presidential candidate John Edwards has sent conservatives to the fainting couch in an episode of 'why I never!' mass hysteria.

Ann Coulter has walked point for conservatives for almost a decade. She has been assaulted, threatened and stalked. She requires bodyguards for protection. Liberals believe they are justified in physically attacking Ann. I heard one say so at CPAC--not in response to her rehab joke, but because Ann 'insults people.'

Ann has been an early and loyal friend of Free Republic. She is one of the few prominent conservatives who regularly breaks bread with FReepers. Her friendship is now being repayed by FReepers who want her driven out of conservatism.

That so many conservatives want Ann banned from CPAC is a sad indicator of the state of conservatism. It is not Ann Coulter's fault that Republicans lost both houses of Congress. It is not Ann Coulter's fault that President Bush is not popular. Sacrificing Ann Coulter on the altar of political correctness will not win the elections of 2008 nor will it prevent conservatives from being sent to rehab for uttering politically incorrect words and ideas.

After Ann uttered the words that have given so many conservatives the vapors, the line for her booksigning at CPAC was just as long as usual. I know, I was standing in that line. If CPAC attendees were so outraged about Ann's remarks, it was not manifested there. I didn't learn about the controversy until I read about it online later that night.

I spent the next day at CPAC. Ann's remarks were not a hot topic. I know because the only time I heard it talked about was when I brought it up. Those I spoke with about it were not upset.

I do not wish to speak ill of my friends and acquaintances who are dumping on Ann, other than to express my disappointment. I do wish they'd reconsider and stop attacking a friend who has walked point for them. Liberals must be laughing themselves silly as they watch us take out someone they've been wanting to eliminate for years.

Came to the conclusion that there are a lot of faggots here.

“Foul whisperings are abroad: unnatural deeds
Do breed unnatural troubles: infected minds
To their deaf pillows will discharge their secrets”

We have a presidential candidate who is just like Clinton with women, dresses up like a girl and lived with two homosexuals...

These same folks upset by Coulter would have us believe government should sanctify perversion with some honorable status equivalent to marriage.

IMO there are two reasons the libs are having fainting spells over this single comment. First its too close to the truth and that scares them. Second, it challenges the PC mantra in a public way.

They use the word faggot on a routine and almost daily basis and its considered hip.

Ann's fun to watch as she's not afraid to tackle anything and smart enough to get the best of em.

Isn't there some quote about how fanaticism in defense of liberty is no sin? I can't remember it exactly, but I think it was Jefferson who said it? Anyway, it applies here.

How bout this one? "Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue."

As of now almost all the GOP Candidates are distancing themselves for Coulter.

I have distanced myself from those three spineless RINO wimps McCain, Romney and Rudy.

I would hate to see one of those three represent the Republican party as a candidate for president.

Warren is a Muslim, what did you expect? He's absolutely disgusting, but all of YT is like that now. Just the world's losers looking at themselves on the Internet. You are right though, the kids are so stupid and they just suck this garbage right up.

On Fox & Friends this AM, they reported on Ann's reaction to her "condemnation". To paraphrase, "It was a joke! I would never smear the gays by saying that John Edwards was one of them!"

Well said, Kristinn, thank you. I appreciate Ann's clever use of the First Amendment and have seen, all over the web, folks detailing very hideous fantasies of the assaults they would like to inflict upon this woman. I have also been pleased to see other folks (on pop-culture threads, where libspeak is the order of the day) break the PC chorus of 2 minutes' hate to point out that these hateful reactions merely prove Coulter's point. Among other things, it's a perfect example of the hypocritical, condescending and hateful ugly ignorance infesting our culture, where apparently it's okay to be a beautiful coke-head superthin blonde ho but not okay to be a beautiful, educated, politically opinionated superthin champion of conservative values (not to mention the 2nd Amendment).

It's almost like Ann insulted el prophet falso or something; given this "off with her head!" reaction. Wow.

However, I think it was a pretty nasty thing to say about anyone, even a liberal. I'm not going to quit reading her work or supporting her because of it, but I sometimes think she goes too far.

I agree with you; I was very disappointed in Ann Coulter's reference to Harriet Miers as the "cleaning lady," and this latest comment seems to me to be on the same lines-- for shock value alone. I think sometimes sge tries a bit too hard. Her comment, though, hardly deserves the stop-the-presses treatement it is receiving. As another poster pointed out (in a great observation) it is as nothing compared to Edwards' bloggers.

Conservatives have a sense of humor.

Most liberals don't.

Thanks. I laughed, too. John Edwards IS a faggot! By that term, I don't mean a homosexual but a primping, girlie man. When I was in High School, any guy acting like him about his hair and looks we'd call a fag, not necessarily someone who liked sex with another guy.

I for one refuse to be taken to the wood shed by the sexual perversion gestapo. Imagine if guys who like fat chicks, or red heads, or older gals, wanted/demanded political rights! The world really needs to see that homosexuality is all about a sexual preference, not an inherent feature of one's body, like being black or male or female.

Ann was only trying to make a wry commentary on the fact that we now have a new "N" word equivalent, The "F" word.

The problem is, she USED the actual word. Now, predictably, a lot of people are apoplectic about it.

I believe that the only way for Ann to salvage her carreer is to go into rehab ASAP. She should also publicly apologize and say something to the effect.

I regret using the "F" word in reference to John Edwards. I did not mean to imply that he is a practicing homosexual. That isn't me, I'm not the kind of person to say that sort of thing.

What I meant is that the Breck girl is an effeminant, nellie, and swishy man.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

But it is o.k. to have a presidential candidate in that same venue who dresses up like a girl and lived with two homosexuals???

(I disagree with Ann on the Harriet Miers thing... it was more like playing a game of "Old Maid.")

It does seem that a lot of so-called conservatives think that using the word "faggot" should get you sent to rehab, doesn't it?

It would be different if a racist word had been used. But "faggot" is a derogatory term for one who practices fudge-packing with same-sex pervs. It's not a race, creed, religion, color, etc. It's a nasty, anti-natural type of (mis)BEHAVIOR. And it should be criticized, at every level, and not held to some standard that elevates it above deviancy. And John Edwards certainly comes across as a faggot. If he's straight, I'd be shocked to learn it.

Not this freeper. We need Ann to bluntly and clearly say the things that need to be said. I'm not going to bash her, she gets enough of that from the other side.
