This is the third article in today's Sun-Times where a liberal columnist attempts to defuse Barack Hussein's slave ownership crisis. Pretty impressive showing by the lefties of their unquestioning support for Obama even at this early date.

Here are the other two articles:

Relatively meaningless (HITLER'S RELATIVES AND OBAMA'S SLAVE-HOLDING ANCESTRY)

Bill Clinton is Hillary's best bet to bridging her racial divide (VS. SLAVE-OWNING OBAMA AT SELMA)

Yet somehow GWB is a NAZI because his grandfather did business with the German gov't in 1939.

They're right - it doesn't matter. Next controversy?

My family were PA coal miners and railroad workers. My German grandfather that was in the mines fought against Irish in their small town. Life was different in the 1920s.

This is as stupid as the Virginia legislature wasting time with the "apology for slavery" nonsense, as well as my own state of Missouri. If you, at some point in your life, have owned slaves, then you should apologize. If you haven't, then go on about your business. If you have been forced to pick cotton while in a legal state of involuntary servitude, then you deserve an apology (from the person to whose service you were in). If none of the above applies to you, then shut up and get on with your life.

Only liberals get that pass.

Strom Thurman and Trent Lott are still as bad as Hitler when they use their special sunglasses that make them blind to U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd's past.

The charade of the MSM becomes even more transparent as time passes.

"And it is a true measure of progress that the descendant of a slave owner would come to marry a student from Kenya and produce a son who would grow up to be a candidate for president of the United States." - Obama spokesman Bill Burton

Spare us, Bill. Being a candidate for President doesn't mean squat. Need evidence? Kucinich, Nader, Sharpton, Jackson, etc.

Which is worse, having ancestors who owned slaves, or being a KKK Grand Dragon like Sen. Robert Byrd and stringing a few up from the nearest white oak tree???

So, now it's okay to own slaves???

I'm hoping they will go to the next step and decide it's okay to smoke and get those d--- smoking nazis off our backs.

Anyone who has long-time antecedants in the south will run across a few slaves. One didn't have to be particularly wealthy to own a few. My GGGG (some number of G's) was a Baptist missionary/preacher in South Carolina and his will showed 3 slaves.

It's kinda like being able to afford a cleaning lady today -- wish I could.

I mean, forget it already, it was another time in a galaxy far, far away. It should never have been brought up. (thank you, Hillary)

"(DOESN'T EVERYONE???)"

No, actually my ancestors were slaves to the British in Ireland. We demand reparations, by the way.

All the liberals whose ancestors owned slaves will come out of the woodwork now and provide cover for Obama.

Columnist Mark Brown is incorrect about his ancestry. His ancestor "General" Jesse Richardson was actually a private in the Revolutionary War.

My great grandmother was given four slaves as a wedding present from her parents. My great grandfather a, Methodist circuit preacher, immediately freed them.

In 1864 slaves were about all they had left to give.

sold the slaves because he had little money and couldn't afford them

How can it be that his slaves were economically unprofitable? He couldn't get more work out of them than the cost of feeding and housing them? If he didn't have work for them to do he could have rented them out.

Guy must have been in quite a jam and he needed quick cash or he was stupid or unlucky.

Wasn't there an old saying, "Give a man some slaves to sell and he eats for a month. Give a man some slaves to do work and he eats for a lifetime."

Not trying to be insensitive, but it was the truth.

And here I thought they were just trying to 'out' slaveowner descendants to line 'em up to pay "reparations"...

I have some tax docs from VA that showed my ancestors owned a few slaves.

Guess I should go flog myself now.

I found this interesting little tidbit online while researching my family:

1829

SIX CENTS REWARD

Ranaway from the subscriber, living in Youngsville, Warren County on Saturday the 18th of April, an indented apprentice, named Henry Kinnear, between 17 and 18 years of age-small for his age. The public are cautioned against harboring or trusting him. The above reward, but no charges, will be given for his apprehension and delivery to me in Youngsville.

ALEXANDER SIGGINS

May 7, 1829

I am descended from both the Siggins famliy and the Kinnear family. The young man who was the runaway servant later went on to marry into the Siggins family.

At one time, servitude was quite widespread. It was a common, accepted form of employment. Chattel slavery was but one form if it.
