Faggot is also a reference to an effeminate male.
Effeminate - possessing qualities or characteristics more often associated with women than men; characterized by weakness and excessive refinement.
To me, the "F" word describes almost every male who either votes Democratic or is alligned with the Decmocratic Party.
And it sure as hell described the Kerry / Edwards ticket in 2004.
Do you know what a "Fag-Hag" is?
Here's his problem ~ he has a very weak base going into the Democratic race for the next year and a half. So, he figures there are 10% gay guys, and 10% gay gals, and none of them ever vote Republican. That means that with Dems half or less of the population, 20% of them must be gay, and that's at least as many as the Hispanic contingent in that party.
He intends to get their votes.
His math is faulty.
Drum her out of the movement? Not at all. If I said that, could you show me where so I can ask the moderator to remove it?
I said I disagreed with that remark and if anyone asks me, I should say so. When someone says something like that, you either give tacit consent with your silence, or you speak up and disagree.
I support any serious conservative who is willing to say that he disapproves of that particular comment.
Ann is a great writer and a witty pundit. But she is not perfect, and this time I feel she blundered and might have alienated people who could have come to agree with us on issues beyond homosexuality, such as homeland security, the culture of entitlement, and illegal immigration.
I didn't read your entire post, but if your sister is 29, she should be old enough to hang around heterosexual men. The Coulter comment matters because it can be used as a method of alienating conservatives and have an effect at the ballot box. That's the reason it's created a manufactured firestorm. It's a political hit on conservatives, much the same way that the congressman who sent "inappropriate" text messages to a legal adult was bopped out of Congress, while Democrat congressmen who had underage homosexual prostitution rings run out of their apartments are still in positions of power. Pure politics. Nothing else.
Ann's remark matters, as far as I'm concerned, because she's capable of better. Or at least she used to be. If "faggot" truly is the first and most incisive thing she can think of to say about John Edwards, it's time for her to get out of the game, or at least sit out for a while.
Send your little sister home to your parents, and tell them you can't trust her to go out without you because she might flirt with the wrong kind of guys so you're forced to take her to a gay bar.
If that doesn't do it, get her a body guard.
Sometimes it is all in the way you say it.
How about poofter ~ is that more acceptable to your sensitive ears? >:-}
Because they are afraid of us. Seriously, many gays think that conservatives hate them and that we would do them harm if we could. And that word is particularly associated with virulent dislike.
I'm not here to defend their inalienable right to never be offended (because no such right exists.) I am here to say that we should stay above a certain level for the sake of conservatism and this country's future, and that particular remark descended below it.
That's a lot of people, and they vote. They voted in 2006 and they will be voting in 2008.
What I'm saying is, some of them could come to realize that the Dem's platform really isn't in their best interest... if we don't alienate them with unnecessarily aggressive "jokes" that will only scare them back into the Dems' camp.
Thank you!
Let me tell your story as it is, not as you want it to be.
"My sister is a cheap drunk and likes to hang out where she can drink dollar draft beers. A good place for that is a gay bar where she can flirt with men, without worrying about being picked up. She's 29, and would rather flirt with a gay male who won't try to form a relationship, than with a straight male, who might try to establish a relationship. I don't know, but I guess that's the logic of cheap drunks. Not to worry though, since I'm the over-protective type, and I still worry that someone really might pick her up, I go with her to make sure that doesn't happen. I mean, whether the men are gay or straight, it is my mission in life to protect my cheap drunk sister. Well, I talked with a man who has had a productive life. So you Freepers better not say nasty things like Ann did, or you might drive this kind of man away from conservative candidates. Oh, and there was someone who was obnoxious. He bothered us, and he got thrown out. And the other fairies were fluttering around us and asking us if we were ok. We all lived happily ever after.
I suspect he has some sort of fall woven into his natural hair, or he overdosed on proscar ~ Propecia is a 10% solution.
I agree. But the whole point of my essay is that gays and conservatives *could* see eye to eye on homeland security, illegal immigration, and taxes. If that could happen, why throw away their votes just for the momentary satisfaction of calling them names?
Exactly!
That was good, Enterprise. BTW were these people turned off by John Kerry, who served in Viet Nam, when he said the things about Cheney's daughter.
I'd prefer Duncan Hunter. I don't want gay marriage. I want gays to embrace conservatism, not for conservatism to embrace gays. And some of them might embrace conservatism on other issues such as immigration, taxes, and homeland security... if we don't alienate them.
There's a wide gap between embracing them and just not lashing out at them. There's a lot of ground between the punch and the hug.
"Ann is a great writer and a witty pundit. But she is not perfect, and this time I feel she blundered and might have alienated people who could have come to agree with us on issues beyond homosexuality, such as homeland security, the culture of entitlement, and illegal immigration."
Coulter has surely attracted more homosexuals to the conservative movement probably than any other person. She has certain drawn more than you have or will in a thousand lifetimes.
Most homosexuals, like most human beings, can understand a joke.
It's too bad you can't.
