The CPAC I saw (Michelle Malkin shares her thoughts on Ann Coulter)

Enter Ann Coulter.

Her "faggot" joke was not just a distraction from all the good that was highlighted and represented at the conference. It was the equivalent of a rhetorical fragging--an intentionally-tossed verbal grenade that exploded in her own fellow ideological soldiers' tent.

There are countless conservatives who bring their children to CPAC. It's a family-friendly event. I brought mine last year and the year before. I met several parents with their kids there this year. We expect CPAC to be a place where conservative role models speak with clarity, passion, and integrity. There are enough spewers of mindless filth, vulgarity, and hatred on TV, at the movies, and in the public schools. We don't expect our children to be exposed to that garbage at the nation's preeminent conservative gathering.

I was in the back of the ballroom and did not see any children in the audience during Coulter's speech. But what if there had been?

Would you want your children hearing the word "faggot" spoken in such a casual and senseless manner? Would you like your first-grader or three-year-old running around the halls of CPAC singing "faggot, faggot, faggot?" Not me. Not anymore than I'd like my toddler singing "gook, gook, gook" or "sambo, sambo, sambo"--favored epithets hurled at conservative minorities by leftist haters groping around in their empty intellectual quivers. There were hundreds of young conservative college students in the ballroom. Would you be proud of your college-age daughter spewing such epithets in her campus debates with leftists?

With a single word, Coulter sullied the hard work of hundreds of CPAC participants and exhibitors and tarred the collective reputation of thousands of CPAC attendees. At a reception for college students held by the Young America's Foundation, I lambasted the substitution of stupid slurs for persuasion-- be it "faggot" from a conservative or "gook" from a liberal--and urged the young people there to conduct themselves at all times with dignity in their ideological battles on and off campus.

I made something else explicitly clear: Not all of us treat the communication of conservative ideals and ideas as 24/7 performance art. You can and should use humor to convey your message. You can enlighten and entertain--without becoming a tired old schtick. You can joke without becoming the joke.

I liked Coulter's response to the criticism of her "faggot" remarks: “C’mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean.”

Human beings are defined by nature.

Unnatural acts breed unnatural troubles...

Now this is NAIL ON HEAD

I ... urged the young people there to conduct themselves at all times with dignity in their ideological battles on and off campus.

I find it hard to argue against the idea of maintaining personal dignity and honor in one's communications. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is as true today as it ever was.

Yah, you have a really, really warped view of humanity.

Sinful acts are natural. It's unsinful acts that are not natural. Our nature has been corrupted.

I believe in this "Log in your own eye before the spec in your brothers" thing.

“And oftentimes, to win us to our harm,
The instruments of darkness tell us truths
Win us with honest trifles, to betray's
In deepest consequence.”

you said: Sinful acts are natural. It's unsinful acts that are not natural. Our nature has been corrupted....

So, what you're saying is a man shoving his arm up another man's butthole is natural? If fisting to you is natural, I would say you are the one with a warped view of humanity.

Come off it Michelle. You are going to tell me that college-age people that attend CPAC can't think for themselves and not use the word?

With a single word, Coulter sullied the hard work of hundreds of CPAC participants and exhibitors and tarred the collective reputation of thousands of CPAC attendees.

Male bovine fecal effluvia, Michelle. Last time I attended, Al Kamen of the WaPo went hunting around for an issue and saw a bumpersticker at a vendor booth that said "Islam" with the Nazi swastika replacing the letter "s." The booth belonged to a business owned by a fairly prominent FReeper. Leftists and liberals deliberately target CPAC hoping to find dirt every year.

Tempest in a teapot and I don't appreciate your characterization of Ms. Coulter, Michelle.

Been here longer than you bud.

No, you haven't.

I saw one of you two at the FR March for Justice in 1998, and it wasn't YOU, misterrob.

Was it really necessary for her to refer to the 911 widows as harpies and say for all we knew their husbands were about to divorce them.

Yes it was because they truly are attention whore harpies. Ever hear them speak?

Whoa. If a single word could do that much damage, then I think we're giving too much power to the work of a single word. Could it be that we're focusing too much ON a single word and not enough on the entire BODY of work and research someone has done for conservatism?

Did liberals throw out Jackson after "hymie-town"? Nope. That jerk is as strong as ever.

Did liberals throw out AlGore after "no controlling legal authority" horsecrap? Nope.

How about Clinton after his violated an intern with his cigar and sucked on it? Nope.

The fact is, some conservatives are willing to just kick a fellow conservative for a single line--think Trent Lott, think Ann Coulter, I'm sure you can think of others...and by thus doing join the liberals in lambasting one of our own.

That is a stupid move. Coulter does a hell of a job pointing out Democrat hypocrisy and inconsistencies. And she ought to be applauded for such, not run down because she tells a politically incorrect JOKE, for goodness sake.

I have never been the "kiss and tell" type. Maybe that is why the girls really like a big ugly cowboy like me...

The reason Coulter is infinitely more popular than Michelle Malkin is because Malkin is utterly humorless.

You are a dying breed. Society has been busy "faggotizing" men. It's very very sad. And they are wondering why girls like myself arent married? When I find a "man", I will marry him =). Till then, I will keep looking.

Amen. Agree with you on this.

Politics is a dirty business and not for the weak. It ALWAYS has been and will ALWAYS be so. To unilaterally disarm ourselves by saying we "need to remain above the fray" is not only disingenous but terminally stupid.

You have to fight fire with fire. Saying, "we are above this" makes as much sense as restricting our troops in the field, while the other side can do as it pleases.

Ann, was making a PC point which should have been evident, but apparently even "so-called" conservatives are now been asimilated.

She was referencing an actor on Grey's Anatamy who had to get diversity training to keep his job after using the term "faggot" to describe a homosexual fellow actor on the show. Never mind the fact, that queers call themselves that.

She did not actually call Edwards a faggot but alluded to it in a way that attacked his manhood, something we do regularly here on FR DAILY. See the video, that is regularly posted on Edwards threads, along with the Silk Pony and Breck Girl comments.

Why we feel the need to attack conservatives and prove the democats points is something I don't understand any better than I can figure out why anyone claiming to be a conservative could support Guilani or McCain?
