The CPAC I saw (Michelle Malkin shares her thoughts on Ann Coulter)

Enter Ann Coulter.

Her "faggot" joke was not just a distraction from all the good that was highlighted and represented at the conference. It was the equivalent of a rhetorical fragging--an intentionally-tossed verbal grenade that exploded in her own fellow ideological soldiers' tent.

There are countless conservatives who bring their children to CPAC. It's a family-friendly event. I brought mine last year and the year before. I met several parents with their kids there this year. We expect CPAC to be a place where conservative role models speak with clarity, passion, and integrity. There are enough spewers of mindless filth, vulgarity, and hatred on TV, at the movies, and in the public schools. We don't expect our children to be exposed to that garbage at the nation's preeminent conservative gathering.

I was in the back of the ballroom and did not see any children in the audience during Coulter's speech. But what if there had been?

Would you want your children hearing the word "faggot" spoken in such a casual and senseless manner? Would you like your first-grader or three-year-old running around the halls of CPAC singing "faggot, faggot, faggot?" Not me. Not anymore than I'd like my toddler singing "gook, gook, gook" or "sambo, sambo, sambo"--favored epithets hurled at conservative minorities by leftist haters groping around in their empty intellectual quivers. There were hundreds of young conservative college students in the ballroom. Would you be proud of your college-age daughter spewing such epithets in her campus debates with leftists?

With a single word, Coulter sullied the hard work of hundreds of CPAC participants and exhibitors and tarred the collective reputation of thousands of CPAC attendees. At a reception for college students held by the Young America's Foundation, I lambasted the substitution of stupid slurs for persuasion-- be it "faggot" from a conservative or "gook" from a liberal--and urged the young people there to conduct themselves at all times with dignity in their ideological battles on and off campus.

I made something else explicitly clear: Not all of us treat the communication of conservative ideals and ideas as 24/7 performance art. You can and should use humor to convey your message. You can enlighten and entertain--without becoming a tired old schtick. You can joke without becoming the joke.

No, I tend to think going to opposition campaigns and making trouble isn't a good idea. The other side is entitled to their fun, so are we.

There is never any excuse to menace a child, however. That speaks volumes for the dem ralliers. But no doubt bringing a child to a dem rally and holding pro-opposition signs isn't a good idea. I'm with you.

Lighten up, Michelle. Disparaging words are ok to use within earshot of minors. Examples: faggot, democrat.

Annie wanted attention for Annie...and Annie gets what she wants...even if it trashes CPAC....

Nail on the head...now let's all spin and clean up the mess...she grates on my nerves as much as Maureen O. does...i turn the channel when she is a guest...it's tiresome and all about her...i don't have to guess why she's not married.

(We should teach children that sodomites are likely to have dried human dung on them and to stay away.)

Is this forum in the Twilight Zone or something?

Thank you for the compliment.

As to your remark about Ann being right most of the time, I tend to agree.

I see Edwards as no threat so I am not sure this is necessary but apparently where there is smoke there is fire.

She wants people to talk about Edwards lifestyle choices and she wants people to dig into his past.

So far this morning I have discovered this is a long time question within certain circles. And perhaps this means nothing, but heterosexuals appear to be in the minority on his staff (no pun intended).

It will be interesting to see how this plays out and what dirt diggers find.

I think this was a calculated move on Coulter's part.

Yah, I'm sure it was. To attract attention to Ann at the expense of real issues at hand.

It's all about Coulter. It has nothing to do with the Conservative movement.

Not all of us treat the communication of conservative ideals and ideas as 24/7 performance art.

I'm usually not a big MM fan either, but she's dead on right about this. Good luck at Coulteriacks buying it though.

its practicioners don't reserve any respect at all.

You sicken me. I'm ashamed that anybody that would believe this would vote the same way I do.

Johnny Cash sang a song about people like you. It's called "God's Gonna Cut You Down." Remember that when he does.

Yah, basic respect as a human being granted toward Gays is totally out of line.

You sicken me.

Only the Twilight Zone if you accept the demands of a current political orthodoxy requiring that sodomites deserve main-streaming. They don't, and they never have deserved to be main-streamed. They are a public health menace. Are 2,000 years of Western Civilization wrong on this, or are we in the Twilight Zone right now?

I agree with you. Ann’s shtick is much like the comedian Gallagher (http://gallaghersmash.com/ ). She is entertaining and has been fairly successful in carving out a career on the fringes of politics. She has demonstrated a quick wit and a natural comedian’s propensity for one liners. Why would different behavior be expected just because someone is foolish enough to invite her to speak at a serious event? After all, if you take you dog to the dinner table, would you get upset because she doesn’t eat with a fork?

Yes, it is almost shocking. I would never have imagined this ten years ago.

Conservatives are held to a much higher standard than liberals. Conservatives should not say words like that because they will be condemned, although a liberal would not be condemned.

I personally want the standard for conservatives to be off the charts as compared to leftists, liberals and democrats.

I think you need to explain the concepts in terms that are relevant to them, so they can understand and accept them. Seeing George F. Will drone on about taxes isn't going to do that.

Ann Coulter is right on the money...

We have a presidential candidate who is just like Clinton with women, dresses up like a girl and lived with two homosexuals...

These same folks upset by Coulter would have us believe government should sanctify perversion with some honorable status equivalent to marriage.

As a single woman myself, it is hard to find a "real" man now a days. Society has been turning men into faggots....oops, sorry, I should have used the PC term "metrosexuals", and turning women into men. Men and women are NOT the same. Bluring these lines has turned our society into a state of confusion. In the words of Blanche.... "I don't want to be treated equally, I want to be treated better"!
