The Bush administrations assault on some of the founding principles of American democracy marches onward despite the Democratic victory in the 2006 elections. The new Democratic majorities in Congress can block the sort of noxious measures that the Republican majority rubber-stamped. But preventing new assaults on civil liberties is not nearly enough.
Five years of presidential overreaching and Congressional collaboration continue to exact a high toll in human lives, Americas global reputation and the architecture of democracy. Brutality toward prisoners, and the denial of their human rights, have been institutionalized; unlawful spying on Americans continues; and the courts are being closed to legal challenges of these practices.

Today were offering a list which, sadly, is hardly exhaustive of things that need to be done to reverse the unwise and lawless policies of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Many will require a rewrite of the Military Commissions Act of 2006, an atrocious measure pushed through Congress with the help of three Republican senators, Arlen Specter, Lindsey Graham and John McCain; Senator McCain lent his moral authority to improving one part of the bill and thus obscured its many other problems.
Our list starts with three fundamental tasks:
Restore Habeas Corpus
Stop Illegal Spying
Ban Torture, Really
Close the C.I.A. Prisons
Account for Ghost Prisoners
Ban Extraordinary Rendition
Tighten the Definition of Combatant
Screen Prisoners Fairly and Effectively
Ban Tainted Evidence
Ban Secret Evidence
Better Define Classified Evidence
Respect the Right to Counsel

I do believe the New York Times is more sympathetic to terrorists than Osama Bin Laden. Sheesh, this article looks like a parody. In fact, maybe it is, I have to go back and look at this again.
"...this article looks like a parody. In fact, maybe it is, I have to go back and look at this again."
Funny you say that. Right after I posted it, I felt the same way and I followed my own link back to double check.
To shut down the Ny Times would do it for me.
Oh, and they left one out: Mandate Muslim Mosques in every town with Sharia law governing the people.
Our list starts with three fundamental tasks:
Restore journalistic integrity
Stop Illegal "leak" reporting
Ban anonymous sourcing, Really.
Open the Editorial process
Account for ‘Ghost Reporters’
Ban Extraordinary Accounts (of things that Don't happen)
Tighten the Definition of Truth
Screen Reporters Fairly and Effectively
Ban Tainted information
Ban Secret source information
Better Define ‘seditious’ behavior
Respect the Right to be challenged.
If the NYT has ties to terrorists, shut them down and arrest them.
"Give Terrorists full rights to murder your neighbors kids." Zat close eough?
Great list! Did you send it to them?
Exactly! I was thinking this was a joke. The writers expect to be taken seriously?
May I start a list?
1. Prosecute anti-United States propaganda machines - starting with the New York Times.
No, I don't (and never would) have a subscription - feel free to send it wherever you wish...

I think that the NYT editorial board is correct. Here's what needs to be done...
1) Prepare the inmates at Gitmo for transfer to a new location
2) Surround the NY Times offices with guard towers and razor wire
3) Move the inmates from Gitmo to the NY Times offices
4) Let the NY Times editorial board handle the inmates from gitmo in any way they see fit.
5) Shoot anyone who tries to come out of the building.
Heck, I don't think that the terrorists writing articles and editorials could be any more "anti-American" than what the Slimes is publishing now...

I think what you meant to say was "NY Times Demands Rights for People Accused by the Government of being Terrorists"
"I think what you meant to say was "NY Times Demands Rights for People Accused by the Government of being Terrorists""
No, I meant to say what I said "NY Times Demands Rights for Terrorists". Thank you for your concern and attempt to read my thoughts. That is a very special gift you think you have.
What I think you meant to say at the end of your post was "Ignote my worthless post".
Thanks for making the point which should be obvious JTN. BTW, I like your tagline. Is that from "They Live"?
Ah, well then, your statement was too exclusive. Or are you unaware that numerous innocent people have been on the receiving end of these abuses?
Thank you. Yes, it's from "They Live", but I think I may have gotten the quote slightly wrong. I think it may be "I have come here..." instead of "I came here...", but I haven't bothered to look it up.
