That is one singular fact that should be putting the Rudy Roadshow out of business.
Go Rudy
He should go away.
Bump!
I have answered that question on other threads, even to you, and yet I'm accused of "stalking" the threads by a rudophile.
Hypothetical to answer your hypothetical. Both sides losing to Hillary.
The solib republican splits the base. The MSM turns on him the moment he is nominated. Hillary wins. Republican party is split.
The socon republican wins the nomination, loses to hildebeast in a tough fight. Republicans are united against the hillary presidency.
Which candidate is best for the republican party?

Well said, familyop.
In the recent Spartanburg poll, Giuliani and Hunter both lost to McCain and were within 1% of each other. If Giuliani is "electable", then certainly Hunter is, and he doesn't split the socon base. In short, the republian party can afford a socon but cannot afford a solib like rudy.
Asked "who would be your first choice to be the Republican nominee for president," CPAC attendees responded as follows: Romney 21%, Giuliani 17%, Sen. Brownback of Kansas 15%, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich 14%, and Sen. McCain of Arizona 12%.
This FR poll shows rudy splitting the socon base.

The hitch in your giddyup plan is that you have to trust the conservative. If he has already lied on those issues, it proves you cannot trust him.
Slavery was a rare issue that had no gradations; one was either for it or against it.
***Abortion is very similar. But we can't ask those 50M silenced voices, whereas in slavery the voices were audible and clear.
Besides in the bast 30 years 3 republican Presidents have failed to fix or push any of the social conservative causes anyway all they have managed to do is stem the tide. The slippery slope looms every closer.
***By your own words, we should be choosing the socon candidate rather than the solib in order to avoid the slippery slope. If all a socon can do is stem the tide, what is a solib gonna do to this country?
Yeah, and the Civil War was the result of one of those compromises.
***In the civil war we lost about 400K men. In the abortion thing there are ~40M lost. That's 2 orders of magnitude more. We've already lost way more in this compromise than the last one.
Cincinatus was the model Roman fighter who bravely answered the call and then humbly went back to farming. I would hope that Cincinatus' Wife would have some of that fighting spirit.
Well said. I think that's why there is such a magnetic attraction to rudy as a candidate, this perceived image that the MSM generates. The GOP is going to have to learn how to control its own image if it wants to survive. Right now the MSM is portraying the GOP exactly how it wants to, and our party is in mad scramble mode rather than taking ownership. It's like the dot-com boom when companies were falling all over themselves to get on the internet and establish a presence, but eventually it was the brick&morter/real substance companies that had the best presence on the web. Hype went out the window once there was a slight wind.
Haven't you learned anything from the schwartznotagain debacle?
Matthew 16:26
What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
I would support Lieberman over Giuliani, if I had to make that choice. For all his many warts, he is a decent man who seems to have a more solid grasp of the real "big picture" (hint: it ain't the WOT).
I am starting to become convinced that there is an unusual spiritual aspect to this race and that my prayer support for my candidate will be the most powerful thing I can do.
There is a strange wind blowing, no doubt, something bigger and more transcendent this time around. I can see it too, and join you in praying for God's mercy...
I don't accept that he is a liar. I have long accepted that he would not get your vote. The purpose of arguing with you is not to turn your vote, but to show both sides of the argument to anyone undecided who is reading.
***Then allow me to put in a plug for this Rudy video, in his own words. Let the readers see for themselves. I think Rudy is a liar.

What will persuade people on abortion will be simple dissemination, unhampered by gov't free speech restrictions, of the gruesome reality of the procedure itself, of its demographic impact, and of the biological realities of the object of abortion.
Abortion is, by far, the greatest and most tragic cultural issue of our time: 9/11 killed roughly 3,000 individuals; the most liberal estimates for casualties in the Iraq conflict put the number in low six figures. Roe v. Wade, OTOH, necessitated by the sexual revolution of the '60's has facilitated a mode of behavior - normalized promiscuity - that has taken the lives of a number of human beings similar to the number of residents living in America illegally - tens of millions. That severity simply cannot be matched by any other issue as the numbers don't lie. And the numbers do not begin to measure the silent grief suffered by abortion's other victims (the would-be mothers).
Thirty-four years of conditioning needs to be undone. The solution is to put the lie to the precedent, age not withstanding, and not rest until we reclaim the Bill of Rights that extends to every American (and yes, an originalist interpretation does include the unborn).
