WASHINGTON, March 3 Three of the leading Republican presidential candidates on Saturday denounced one of their partys best-known conservative commentators for using an antigay epithet when discussing a Democratic presidential contender at a gathering of conservatives here.
The remarks by Ann Coulter, an author who regularly speaks at conservative events, were sharply denounced by the candidates, Senator John McCain of Arizona, Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. Their statements came after Democrats, gay rights groups and bloggers raised a storm of protest over the remarks.
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference before an overflow crowd on Friday, Ms. Coulter said, I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word faggot, so I so kind of an impasse, cant really talk about Edwards.
Mr. Edwardss aides responded with an e-mail message that attacked Ms. Coulter and urged supporters to donate to Mr. Edwardss campaign. John was singled out for a personal attack because the Republican establishment knows he poses the greatest threat to their power, said his campaign manager, David E. Bonior. Since they have nothing real to use against him, Coulters resorting to the classic right-wing strategy of riling up hate to smear a progressive champion.
Ms. Coulter, asked for a reaction to the Republican criticism, said in an e-mail message: Cmon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean.

And he was dissed for calling a certain place an Evil Empire. People were having the vapors over it. He also brought down the wall. I think Condi is quite capable of handling her critics without any help at all from lib media outrage, which she will never get. She is secure in herself. I don't remember anyone who made some cartoons of her, facing too much outrage, particularly from the other party. Their silence was their response. Guess what, who won the 2006 elections? My Point.
She's the best!
One of the problems is that we live in a Kevin Bacon world where anyone can be connect to anyone else. Ann's comments can get connected to CPAC where one of these candidates appears to speak. Toss in the idea that Candidate A "must be endorsing Ann's comments because he spoke in front of the same group that allowed Ann to get on stage and call someone a "faggot". He must think the same thing!!!!!" and you get a real cluster-frack going.
Think that's too far out there? Unfortunately it's not these days.
Maybe not saying anything would have worked better. Well, some candidates have said something, some have not. It will be interesting to see who made the right call.
Yeah, I'm a guy trolling....*rolls eyes*
"These are not the faggots you're looking for, Rudy, John & Mitt..."
Love the picture. Thanks for the am laugh.
"What a bunch of pansies! Bootlicker brown nosers, I swear! No wonder the dhimmicrats won the house and senate. If this is offensive to you, and is little more than a comment in the election cycle, get over yourself!"
Fine then, super conservatives, can we expect any of you to start calling Obama a "n*gger" soon too? He is black and all, and Im sure you dont agree with his political positions. Or lets call Hillary a "c*nt" too. That'll teach them!
If you dont, you are a RINO, coward, pussified, pansy "Bootlicker brown noser"!
I mean since we are the Grand Old Party of 4th graders now, lets go all in!
IT will have NO effect at all. Don't forget the elections are over 16 months ahead of us. There will be many remarks made by many on both sides. Ann may be a bold, brazen little conservative hussy, but she has guts. Maybe some of our candidates will get some! What Ann says will stick to conservatives in a positive way. We need to stop acting like PC Rats, and acting like we have to embrace the RAT standards allowed for conservatives. The RATs who say things much worse than any conservative anywhere has ever said.
No, the Dems won last November because they lied about the "conservativeness" of many of their candidates for Congress, and got by with a little help from their Main Stream Media...
First of all, Ann is an idiot for distracting attention away from the GOP candidates. But there was no slur. She never called Edwards a faggot. The same MSM who accepted Clinton's parsing the means of the word "is" have no problem asserting Coulter called Edwards a faggot, when she did no such thing.
"Maybe some of our candidates will get some!"
Maybe, but calling people faggots isn't going to win them very many votes. I'm sure there are lots of things Ann has said that they agree with (well maybe not McCain), but if she can't control herself in cases like this, then no one should expect her not to catch some grief.
"Perhaps you have heard of Russian epic: Cinderella. If shoe fits, wear it..." -Pavel Checkov...
I guess it's too bad that Ann didn't refer to anyone as a "faggot", then:
You can still have your violent little fantasy about Ann, though - it's a free Internet.
LoL....
I do not want a Republican candidate who will pander to the PERVERTS...
I do not like the perverts, the gun grabbers, the illegals, the dopers or the baby killers.
If these limp spined Republicans aren't going to stand up to these sick "faggots" in the media, screw them too...
