South Park: Most Quoted Episodes ("Manbearpig")
South Park | 3/03/07 | LS

Posted on 03/03/2007 3:58:58 PM PST by LS

Disclaimer: I am not endorsing the language or some of the actions of the cartoon characters on South Park :)

For those of you who have not seen this risque "cartoon" series, the Cartoon Network has run some of the "Most Quoted Episodes" of South Park, and one featured Algore in an episode involving "Manbearpig."

Alore comes to South Park to warn the kids about "Manbearpig" (global warming), a mythical creature that he insists exists and wants them to get worked up about. (No one does). The kids only repeatedly say things like, "I feel sorry for him. He doesn't have any friends.") Although no one has ever seen "Manbearpig," or have a shred of proof it exists, Algore (yes, they use his name) tries to drum up a frenzy of concern. In one scene he is in a cave with a tourist group when someone announces the former vice president is in the group. Out of some 30 people, two applaud.

This was a hysterical episode and, I think, is reflective of what an important part of the teen-to-young adult group ingest as humor. It clearly rejects not only global warming, but the notion that Gore or Hollywood elites should dictate what the rest of us do.

I believe South Park has actually prevented many younger people from being seduced by the Democratic Party and liberalism altogether.

You are telling the truth more than you know...my nephew has become conservative just from watching South Park...maybe not conservative but at least it makes him think about issues and not just buy media and Hollywood's version of it.

Syndication is crazy on cable.

Tivo is the answer, really. Go by the show and/or the genre, never by the time and channel.

Great stuff, 'juvenile', but sophisticated. I think a lot of new comedy is that way. Silly, obscene and so on, but funny as heck.

That was a good one too. I don't enjoy all of the South Park episodes though. For some reason Matt and Trey have a fixation on scatological imagery which more or less puts me off. The World of Warcraft episode was brilliant but I didn't need to see Cartman do his business into a bedpan as his mom held it from behind.

You're right, but I was afraid this guy wouldn't find it funny. Channeling Algore is an artform best reserved for "juvenile" minds.

Honestly that wasn't too far from reality. I know some people who play WoW and other such games all day. They sleep, play WoW for 16 hours and go to bed.

The South won (or very nearly did). In that context, that show was a glorification of drinking.

In real life, Ulysses Grant kicked the South's ass. As President Lincoln said, "find out that man's favorite brand of whisky and send a case to all my other generals."

Oh, good, another FreeRepublic South Park love-fest thread. Didn't Ann Coulter's disparaging remark about John Edwards teach us anything? This sort of juvenile humor has no place among conservatives.

Uh, are you serial?

This "cartoon" consistently offends the Catholic Church, depicts children cussing, glorifies drunkenness and homosexuality ... all the while holding Al Gore up to be some kind of superhero who destroys an evil monster.

You can't be serial. This "cartoon" is the only legitimate form of satire in the popular culture. It mocks the Catholic Church, yes. (As well it should, what with the Church's blind-eye toward the banging of little boys.) It also mocks and abuses Mormans, homosexuals, pedophiles (not to be redundant, having already mentioned the Catholic Church), Muslims, Scientologists, Janet Reno, Bill Clinton, etc., etc., etc.

Can someone please remind me while so many so-called "adults" and so-called "conservatives" watch this show?

Uh, because it's hillarious.

It's called a "sense of humor." Look into it.

Of course I knew you were referring to Buchanan, but who is the other one? Scarborough or Tancredo?

I don't know anything about Tancredo, but Scarborough is the GOP's Gary Condit. What with a dead female staffer showing up in his office and all.

Scarborough is a slime and a sell-out.

And there's a good chance he whacked a female staffer.

I'm just sayin'.

They did a great job portraying the geek MMORPG addict. I witnessed those people when I played WoW and joined a guild with a couple of friends. A few of the guild members were up to their maximum level (60 at the time) in a month or so. You have to play several hours a day every day in order to do that.

No wonder you didn't realize what Coulter was saying, apparently you don't realize what the episode you speak was saying either. This is apparently not your brand of humor.

Just for the sake of saying so, you missed the whole point on what that episode was about. It was a clear statement, that for PC reasons, it is ok for everyone to make fun of all those things you mentioned, no one will speak up, no ones life is threatened, no bombs, but let a cartoon about Islam show up somewhere and there is hell to pay. And they are right. It showed the hypocrisy at it's worst.
