Ha! Ha!
This is the problem with legislatures. All the laws were basically written long, long ago. They mainly exist now to come up with stupid ideas like this one.

By giving them free money from other taxpayers?

If families added $50 a month to the state's initial contribution, the savings account would grow to nearly $17,500 at 5 percent interest over 18 years. If families just put in $50 a month to zero state initial contribution it would grow to about $16,300 over 18 years. What does that $17,500 have to do with anything other than making it look like the state's $500 "investment" is going to grow to a huge number for each child (with a little handwaving to distract you from the $600/year the parents would have to save to get to that final amount)?

Question:
Are the children of Illegal immigrants eligible for the $500 birthing bonus?
If so -- we will be further subsidizing the invasion of the brood mares and fornicators..
It would be interesting to have heard the discussion on the eligibility issues:
1. Are children born to unwed mothers eligible?
2. Are children born to single sex "couples", eligible?
3. Are children born as a result of incest, eligible?
4. Are children born to illegal aliens/residents eligible?
5. Are children born to the multiple wives of those that practice polygamy eligible?
6. Are children born to aliens in the Nation legally on a temporary visa - like tourists, students, contract employees, etc, etc..., eligible?
If so - aren't we increasing the attraction and subsidizing those we should NOT be financing?
This is another idiotic idea of the Leftists to purchase votes and swing open the door more fully to legalization of the illegal invasion.
If the Democrats REALLY want to do "something for the children" -- END Public Education, Teacher's Unions and subsidize the cost of children going to PRIVATELY operated schools from preschool through University Levels...
Our Public Schools have become NOTHING but indoctrination centers for every leftist wacky bullshit idea riding in on a drunken horse.

"a bill that would give every child born in California a $500 savings account "
Is the political class absolutely crazy?
It's not enough to look the other way while a tidal wave of illegals crashes over the border -- now, the pols want to pay the illegals to have kids here, too!
