Pro-troop group supports soldiers and efforts to defeat terrorism. While the media continues to prize and perpetuate the blathering of anti-war activists like Cindy Sheehan, Michael Moore and MoveOn.org regarding the war in Iraq, the noteworthy efforts of a grassroots group of pro-troop citizens go largely unnoticed.
Move America Forward is a non-profit organization "committed to supporting America's efforts to defeat terrorism and supporting the brave men and women of our Armed Forces." It was founded in 2004 by former California Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian and acclaimed radio and television personality Melanie Morgan (KSFO 560 AM, San Francisco).
"Unlike those who only see a future of failure for this country, we see a future where freedom and liberty create endless opportunities for Americans and our friends and allies in a more secure world," reads the group's mission statement.
Among Move America Forward's accomplishments is its sponsorship of the "Gold Star Parents to Iraq" trip, during which parents of U.S. soldiers killed in the war can see the country where their sons sacrificed their lives. These parents have been able to tour Saddam's concentration camps and prisons, speak with government officials, meet with U.S. military men and women stationed in Iraq and visit Iraqi citizens.
The non-profit group also began the "Coffee, Cookies, Gatorade, and Beef Jerky for Our Troops" program, partnering with Art's Coffee, Cornerstone Coffee, Cookie Club of America and House of Jerky. "To date we've sent over 20 tons of premium fresh ground coffee, cookies, beef jerky, and Gatorade to our troops serving in Iraq & Afghanistan," reads the Web site. "The treats include a personal message of support from a sponsoring family back home."
Move America Forward has broadcast dozens of television and radio commercials throughout the nation advocating support for troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and for the fight against terrorism. The group plans to kick off a pro-troop caravan across the United States on March 8, ending in Washington, D.C., to join a pro-troop rally scheduled for March 17.
In a video promoting the caravan and rally, Melanie Morgan states, "Our hope is to bring out the very best of America with flags and ribbons, to show our brave men and women that we stand strong and united in defense of this current mission, and in honor of all of those who have defended our country and the cause of freedom throughout our history."
