Several of we Tennesseans would like to see Fred Thompson run. He is a conservative and a man of principle.

I am sure many freepers will find fault with him. He was single during most of his political career and a somewhat of a ladies man. I (being a lady) have no trouble with that, at least he wasn't waving cigars at young interns while he was married and wagging his finger at the lowly American people saying he didn't.

I fear, from reading FR lately, that Jesus wouldn't be good enough for some on here. But Fred Thompson is a good man, so good he became too disgusted with the Washington D.C. BS and stepped away. That combined with the tragic loss of a young daughter.

I worked to get him elected to the Senate, and am pleased with his performance there. I was in close contact with him during the Clinton impeachment hearing. He's a good man, and I'd feel very comfortable with a man of his character in that cesspool D.C. right now.

That's good to hear. I'm a girl and have NO problem with a single lady's man as long as he's a gentleman. Nothing wrong with that at all.

M'am, thank you for saying that...

doug, here are some quick links and ratings of Thompson during his Senate tenure:

National Taxpayers Union>Lifetime A (... seven grades of "A" and one of "B+")

American Conservative Union: Lifetime 86 (out of 100)

Americans for [Liberal] Democratic Action: 10% of 100 in 2002

All Immigration Votes of Senator Fred Thompson

This is a relief to me- up to this point, there was not one Republican potential candidate I could get interested enough in to vote for.

No, I am not kidding. Tired old dogpack, they were, in my opinion.

Fred Thompson, I could campaign for.

Actually, I think Thompson might be one person FR could rally behind.

I really like him.

Jim, could we have a poll with Fred Thompson in the mix?

I, as an ultra conservative conservative (LOL) could support him, and it seems that some of the Rudyphiles could, too.
It would be nice to have a candidate acceptable to a majority.
