Michelle Malkin writes:
Ann Coulter just finished her riff on Al Gore, tossed out some cute jokes ("You can understand why Hollywood is concerned about global warming. You know what heat does to plastic."), and ended with a cheap one-liner about John Edwards being a "faggot." (Paraphrasing) She said she would refrain from commenting on Edwards because "if you say faggot, you have to go to rehab."
A smattering of laughter.
Not from this corner.
Crickets chirping.
Flashback Last year's bomb about "ragheads."
Bryan at Malkin's Hot Air:
Im no fan of John Edwards, but thats just a stupid joke. Its over the line. The laughter it generated across the room was more than a little annoying.
Last year it was raghead. This year its calling John Edwards a faggot. Two years in a row, Coulter has finished up an otherwise sharp CPAC routine with an obnoxious slur that liberals will fling at conservatives for years to come.
Thanks, Ann.
The Captain of Captain's Quarters opined
Yeah, that's just what CPAC needs -- an association with homophobia. Nice work, Ann.
At some point, Republicans will need to get over their issues with homosexuality. Regardless of whether one believes it to be a choice or a hardwired response, it has little impact on anyone but the gay or lesbian person. We can argue that homosexuality doesn't require legal protection, but not when we have our front-line activists referring to them as "faggots" or worse. That indicates a disturbing level of animosity rather than a true desire to allow people the same rights and protections regardless of their lifestyles.
Ann Coulter can be an entertaining and incisive wit. Unfortunately, she can also be a loose cannon, and CPAC might want to consider that the next time around.
Mary Katharine Ham of Townhall.com's one-liner
You shouldn't have to go to psych eval for using it, but it's a nasty word. Just don't.
Sean Hackbarth of The American Mind:
Ann Coulter almost made it through her CPAC speech without looking like a complete buffoon. She wasnt funny, she rarely is, but shes an attention whore. Near the end of her speech she said she wouldnt talk about John Edwards because you have to go into rehab if you use the word faggot. Shes now on non-speaking terms with any gay and lesbian friends.
She should've just called him a fairy and been done with it. Or girly-man; maryjane; nancy; fruit; sissy; queen, etc.
Should we ban all these words from the language?
I say, "If the dress fits, wear it!"
LOL! At least I didn't miss the humor in what Ann said.
If some notable conservative said it, the criticism would be much worse....I expect that kind of rhetoric from Ann
Lighten up, Francis...
Exactly.
I should lighten up?
Wow! Thanks! I asked you for supporting evidence re your crack about Rush "losing" MO with his comments about Fox, but little did I think you'd ever come back with such a huge amount of evidence as this. Yessirree, those 19 words of yours are far above the standard that's required for gold-plated convincing proof. I'm a believer! You were right! Shame on Rush. Shame on Rush.
And don't believe that this "Judith Anne" character knows what she's talking about. Just because she and her family are from Mo doesn't mean they know a single thing about their home state. As opposed to you, sitting there high above your ocean view, seeing the entire world - including Missouri - as it really really is.
The Patron Saint of handgunners.
It is never a good idea to hand your opponents ammunition.
She was referrign to the actor who was recently sent to re-education camp for calling his fellow actor a f@#$%^. She wasn't calling Edwards a bad name, nor implying he is gay.
so why did Talent lose? was he a RINO? that's the typical FR excuse.
My perspective exactlyNever been a big fan of crude.
And he likes his own backyard,
And he likes his fags the best,
Let's make a list of all the words Ann *might* have used.
I read "pansy," "nancy boy," and "girly man" so far. Let me add wussburger, wusstopher, and pusstopher.
Breck Boy sounds kinda queer to me too. No way is he my idea of a POTUS. Whack him again, Ann.

Having rolled a few fags in my backyard in my day, I understand completely.
Just have to understand that, unless one is a Brit, a fag and a faggot aren't the same thing.
I'm partial to the phrase, "whimp, wuss, and worse".
Don't know. I'm not from MO. Ask Judith Anne. Or ask me about Colorado races, but not about MO races.
That being said, I can take a few educated guesses....
How about the fact that he never even served a full Senate term? He squeaked by Carnahan's wife to fill out the rest of the term she started to fill out for her late husband. The fact that he only managed to defeat by a narrow margin such an incompetent politician as herself does not speak volumes for his own viability as a politician.
Also, I thought he was hammered really really hard with allegations of corruption via "guilt by association" with the dreaded Delay Boogeyman. Of course, all GOP incumbents were hit with this bogus "culture of corruption" charge last year, but I was under the impression Talent was hit harder than most. But once again, I'm not from MO, so maybe some MO Freeper can comment (though my Dad is a St Louie native, and I have a lot of relatives in StL and Springfield still.)
