Blogosphere Is Quick to Criticize Ann Coulter (Use of a Certain 'F' Word at CPAC)
various | 3/2/2007 | n/a

Posted on 03/02/2007 3:22:58 PM PST by Pyro7480

Michelle Malkin writes:

Ann Coulter just finished her riff on Al Gore, tossed out some cute jokes ("You can understand why Hollywood is concerned about global warming. You know what heat does to plastic."), and ended with a cheap one-liner about John Edwards being a "faggot." (Paraphrasing) She said she would refrain from commenting on Edwards because "if you say faggot, you have to go to rehab."

A smattering of laughter.

Not from this corner.

Crickets chirping.

Flashback Last year's bomb about "ragheads."

Bryan at Malkin's Hot Air:

I’m no fan of John Edwards, but that’s just a stupid joke. It’s over the line. The laughter it generated across the room was more than a little annoying.

Last year it was “raghead.” This year it’s calling John Edwards a “faggot.” Two years in a row, Coulter has finished up an otherwise sharp CPAC routine with an obnoxious slur that liberals will fling at conservatives for years to come.

Thanks, Ann.

The Captain of Captain's Quarters opined

Yeah, that's just what CPAC needs -- an association with homophobia. Nice work, Ann.

At some point, Republicans will need to get over their issues with homosexuality. Regardless of whether one believes it to be a choice or a hardwired response, it has little impact on anyone but the gay or lesbian person. We can argue that homosexuality doesn't require legal protection, but not when we have our front-line activists referring to them as "faggots" or worse. That indicates a disturbing level of animosity rather than a true desire to allow people the same rights and protections regardless of their lifestyles.

Ann Coulter can be an entertaining and incisive wit. Unfortunately, she can also be a loose cannon, and CPAC might want to consider that the next time around.

Mary Katharine Ham of Townhall.com's one-liner

You shouldn't have to go to psych eval for using it, but it's a nasty word. Just don't.

Sean Hackbarth of The American Mind:

Ann Coulter almost made it through her CPAC speech without looking like a complete buffoon. She wasn’t funny, she rarely is, but she’s an attention whore. Near the end of her speech she said she wouldn’t talk about John Edwards because ” you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot.’” She’s now on non-speaking terms with any gay and lesbian friends.

Cheney was also a speaker at CPAC and believe you me he will be asked to defend or condemn Ann's comments as he is the father of a "faggot".

His daughter is a dyke, a carpet muncher, eater of whisker biscuits... still a pervert...

I am confident Dick Cheney has the appropriate response for the queers in the press... hopefully it is the same one he gave Leahy... compounded words... starts with "f."

Homosexuals are perverts

I own a copy of Shirer's "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich," written in the late 50's. In the early sections describing Hitler's ascendancy, Shirer has to make numerous references to homosexuals, due to the nature of the men (especially the Brownshirts) most responsible for putting Hitler in power. What's interesting is that the words homosexual(homosexuality), and pervert(perversion) are used virtually interchangeably. And this was commonly accepted usage in those days, from what I gather.

How things have changed in less than 50 years, eh?

And that leads me to wonder if this book will eventually be banned by "sensitive" librarians nationwide?

Most likely, a new edition will come out - if it hasn't already - with these references deleted.

I have read it...

So, the NAZIs (National Socialists) thought the homosexuals were perverts... So?

Nature defines what is perverted, not man.

Of course, both the NAZIs and the homosexuals are at war with what is written in the Judaic book of Genesis.

Shirer also wrote of the homo-pedophile orgies of the NAZI hierarchy as I remember...

Are these bloggers right in criticizing Ann Coulter, or is it a case of being over-sensitive because of the expected criticism from the Left?

If I read her quote correctly, these bloggers need a course in "Subtlety In The English Language".

Or, they need to read ALL the works of Samuel Clemens - twice.

Jealousy plays a major part in many people's criticism of Ann, particularly from right-wing blogs nobody ever heard of.

I'd be willing to find out. But then I'm not a faggot or a rag-head.

And don't believe that this "Judith Anne" character knows what she's talking about. Just because she and her family are from Mo doesn't mean they know a single thing about their home state. As opposed to you, sitting there high above your ocean view, seeing the entire world - including Missouri - as it really really is.

ROFLPIMP!!!!

Personally I would rather spend time with the likes of Mary
Cheney and John Edwards than with Ann Coulter or with you.

Calling Mary Cheney "filth" is proof that you are not a civilized person.

I think that Edwards is just the victim of a "chicken hawk:

At least from these pictures...

He seems to be trying to fend off Kerry's advances here...

Therein, lies the debate Coulture's comments puts conservatives in. How can you chuckle at Ann's comments calling Edwards a faggot, then puff out your chest and hope Cheney tells the press to "f-off" when questioned about his daughter's homosexuality. Your hatred of "faggots" can't be based on their political affiliation or that of their parents. Otherwise you come off as a dumb hypocrite.

In a round about way what you are saying is Ann is the last Vanguard against the silence and complicentness of Political Correctness and she is the ultimate refusenik and will not go to the verbal reeducation camps. She does it with a cruel invective however.

They are correct in criticizing her. It's a tasteless joke. And, if conservatives expect anyone on the left to stand up and criticize liberals when they go over the line then shouldn't conservatives do the same that they expect from the left? It's the liberals who are typically hypocrites...let's not adopt one of their defining characteristics.

That was the funniest line in the entire movie, and they CUT IT out the last time I saw it on TV. Disgraceful.

She said if they're going to fly airplanes into our buildings and murder us by the thousands, then she's going to call them ragheads.

And some guy from the audience then asked her if she also planned to make fun of blacks and Jews in a similarly disparaging manner. She replied "I will when they start flying airplanes into buildings."

I have never once claimed to be a "conservative" here on Free Republic...

I have no problem with Coulter's comments. In fact, I applaud them.

Political correctness is killing this country and it is time to get mean with some of these people.

We are in a war that is more than just bombs and bullets in some foreign land. It is here.

It is not going to be won by polite conversation with George Stephanopolous or Tim Russert on television because people like them are part of the problem.

Sounds about right for me...

She does it with a cruel invective however.

Cruelty is the only thing terrorists understand. The left is waging a terror war on the children of America...

You are concerned about what somebody says?
