No, they don't have a sense of humor. It's really very sad.

George Will:

Talking about the decline of NYC. Conventional wisdom was that to be mayor of NYC was to be dead end and an impossible job.

Only 3 presidents were ever former mayors.

Mayor of NYC has more people than 39 other states, more difficult to govern than any of the states. A seriously troubled place because of its liberalism.

Produced governance by grievance groups and learned dependency on a welfare state.

But then came a man (Rudy) who said "Millions of people from across the world have acome here and didn't come here to be taken care of by the government. They came here to take care of themselves."

Rudy said 70% of long term prisoners in NYC come from homes without fathers so the best social programs would be called fatherhood.

He said of the school system it's time to go to a choice system and break up the monolopy.

He said he fought bilingual education. He restored the City Univesity to what it had been -- the Harvard to the working class. Then it went to open admissions and no longer was an avenue to upward mobility.

George Will just mentioned that 70% of criminals came from homes without fathers.

Ironic that he should bring that up since Rudy Giuliani dumped his wife and family, kicking them out of their home, and leaving them in a home without a father when he moved in his most recent extramarital sex partner. His kids were aged 10 and 14 when he left them in a home without a father. Hmmmm....

George Will:

Think of Breakfast at Tiffany's and how it had become Bonfire of the Vanities.

Welfare rolls increased (gave #'s) to huge proportions. Rudy shrank the welfare rolls by 600,000. The murder rate declined 67%. The city budget in his 8 years increasd at only 2.9% a year.

He lowered taxes. When he first came into office he was handed a deficit and a study which recommended a tax increase. Rudy literally dropped it in the garbage.

After 9/11, some people asked him if taxes should be increased and he said "That would be dumb, stupid, idiotic and moronic."

Micahel Barone has written that Rudy improved the life of American citizens more than any other person in America (We need that exact quote!)

George Will:

Rudy's conservatism is the flavor of Margaret Thatchers. Hurray

M. Thatcher: I hope you're watching.

George Will is lying through his teech right now, calling Giuliani a conservative. Mentioned 8 successive years of conservative governance. I guess George and I haven't been looking at the same mayor's record. I don't know who he's got Giuliani confused with.
