All day today we are covering speakers and panels at the 34th Annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, DC. This morning, we'll hear from Republican presidential hopeful former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. He will be followed by Reps. Scott Garrett (NJ), Tom Tancredo (CO), and others.

In political terms, if your choice for President gets 60% of the vote, and you disagreed with them 50% of the time, you left a lot on the table to get that extra 9% of the vote you didn't need.
Better to pick a candidate that is with you 90% of the time and gets 51% of the vote.
Rudy might easily win because democrats agree with him on so many issues. In fact, since the war on terror SHOULD NOT BE a conservative/liberal thing, Rudy draws a lot of democrats who hate their party's position on the war.
Leiberman does the same thing. But I wouldn't vote for Leiberman for president, even though on the war he'd be rock-solid.
Rudy hasn't gotten more than 30% in any poll on this forum.
But somehow I imagine the Brownback Supporters found his speech wonderful.
Rudy is a good speaker.
Romney connects well, and is very articulate. And he talks about more of the issues I care about.
If we elect Rudy, I would spend my time praying that all of Rudy's speeches were like this one today, ignoring all the issues he's a liberal on like he did here.
I'd rather have a candidate who I wanted to hear talk about all the issues, or at least 90% of the issues, instead of simply the 2 "most important" ones.
It's not that he slept on the couch of a gay person. It's that he went out of his way to march in gay pride parades, believes homosexuality is normal and good and something government should support, and wants to give special government benefits to same-sex couples.
I have friends who are homosexual. That's not the problem.
I'm confused. (I didn't watch the speech).
You say he "flipped 3 pages of notes". I thought Peach said he spoke from memory and had no notes?
If he married a nutcase, what does that say about his ability to select effective administrators who won't embarrass the GOP?
We all support abortions whether we like them or not, every April 15th, through our tax dollars. I personally abhor the practice of both. Saying I'm a baby killer because I may not agree with them .01% of the time is juvenile and counterproductive. I'm afraid that if a candidate were to run on the same positions as the local pastor, would be considered a RINO or worse by many eyes on this forum, and it just doesn't start with abortion. There are a lot of other issues to consider in a candidate.
George Will is a mixed bag for true conservatives. I think Rudy Supporters could agree on that point. He has his good columns and bad columns.
It's just one person, but being AT the convention might give a person a better idea what people who were there got out of it.
I can agree on that, however I do enjoy reading his columns whether I agree with him all the time or not.
As I noted to others, it's not a very conservative position to dictate to others what they can and cannot do.
A good conservative would simply ignore posts to themselves that they don't want to read. Personal responsibility, not complaints and orders to others to act they way you want them to.

What are Ted Olson's positions on the issues? I don't remember him running for President and having a platform.
From what I recall, when he first started he flipped pages a couple of times... from there it appeared to be from memory as he never looked down at the podium again.
You're another poster who says he did this without notes, but another poster said he had notes. Which is it?
If he had notes up there, I never once saw him refer to them. Other freepers in this very lengthy thread noted that he didn't refer to notes at all either.
But believe what you wish or even better, watch the speech. There are probably links all around the internet so you can watch.
Well, at some point you figure everybody is reading all the comments, so it gets a little tiresome to keep pinging people in.
But I have noticed on multiple threads a decided lack of pinging people who you address directly in a post.
A lot of people don't seem to think that is even a rule or ettiquite that should be followed.
